NTN Encore Question of August 16th, 2008.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Sonny & Cher
  2. Tony Orlando & Dawn
  3. KC & The Sunshine Band
  4. The Captain & Tennille
  5. Sha Na Na

Tonight I'm playing with one board as ROCKET with Rob COSMO and Phil PLBAAB and Sean who didn't have a board. I was able to not get boards for myself which would have made the five minimum to rank our team. I was just a minute late as the waitress carried away six boards to a party group. Two other boards were playing NTN Poker and supposedly all the other boards are broken although I didn't see any of them. With the poor turnout over the months, it wouldn't surprise me if the bar had cut back from 20 to 10 boards. The menu has been revised to cut back on the variety of food served.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/8...our three boards win this round.
OnBeat...ROCKET...11000/14000...1st/8...I go 6 for 9 and win with COSMO.
That was just alright but disappointing as Rob had to come up with two of the answers for me to score even that much.
Jukebox...ROCKET...16652/20000...2nd/8...COSMO wins round. The theme of all categories were superheroes.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...23256/28000...1st/8...PLBAAB wins round. Rob helps us with two. I take only one -250.
The other group from the party stopped playing after taking a few -250s in this round.

.

Now the Encore answers come up. American groups or duels. 1970s is what they have in common. I say if it's 'which group played at Woodstock?' I'll know it's Sha Na Na.

Encore Question:...Which musical duo or group *never* had a weekly variety series on TV?:

I had already put out '1' and '5' before the answers came back up but couldn't remember the others. OK put out '2' and '4' and there it is. I remember watching all of these shows decades ago.

I go over to the party table and one guy is saying it's Sha Na Na. I say I watched their show and said the answer was KC & The Sunshine Band. I well remember the goodbye of Sha Na Na "Grease for Peace". I tell my friends I saw Bowzer Bauman at the Canadian National Exhibition within the last three years MCing a show.

Correct Answer:....3. KC & The Sunshine Band

[NTN Extra Fact:...None of these choices could hold a candle to 1977's "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour".]
