NTN Encore Question of February 2nd, 2008.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.
Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX, with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA, and Phil PLBAAB.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...1st/7...my two boards and COSMO and METLCA win round with 4500. ...........LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/7...I go 0 for 1 on guessing. OnBeat...ROCKET...10500/14000...1st/7...our five boards win round with 6 right, 3 wrong. ..........LITBOX...10500/14000...1st/7...Rob got us one answer. My supply of Billboard magazines has run out as the Chapters I go to is closing down in two weeks so they've stopped ordering magazines. The other Chapters doesn't carry Billboard. I signed up for a subscription on-line which means Billboard will mail them to me and I can also access their 'Biz' section. I held back because I only bought the magazine every two weeks for the last 24 years because of time and money. The differance in the subsciption price vs the cover price will buy me that 'between' week. Times have changed in that with the Canadian and US dollar being worth the same in contrast to the old days of 65 cents, the order price is exactly the same. Let's hope the deliveries are fast while the news is still fresh. JukeBox...ROCKET...15170/20000...1st/7...my two boards win round. ...........LITBOX...15170/20000...1st/7. 'Supergroups' was an easy category for us but the one Sarah McLachlan question we chose was too picky and so was the Sex Pistols question although we would have done just as bad with the alternate 'Classical'. Triviaoke...ROCKET...19155/28000...2nd/7...LITBOX wins round. ...........LITBOX...19193/28000...1st/7...I take at least two -250 scores this round and needed help to steer for a 150. The 'new' song in question 8 was by Taylor Swift and the title was the answer.
I'm disappointed I didn't get my 20000 before the Encore question came up. I could have improved a little bit of everywhere.
Now the Encore answers come up. Groups? I didn't notice they were all English. We noticed that The Troggs were from a different era than the others.
Encore Question:...What epic 1980s band came back in 2007 with their album 'Red Carpet Massacre'?
Rob says it while I'm still reading the question. Yep. I bought this CD. I don't admit this but start talking about the video where they're doctors at some rehab hospital for fashion models and the controversy of whether the models were ringers for Lindsay Lohan or Brittany Spears.
Correct Answer:....3. Duran Duran
[NTN Extra Fact:...Three of the album's tracks were produced by Timbaland.]
I'm right and win as LITBOX with 28732. I finish 57th overall for all North America. The bar is 4th in North America with a 27802 average. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 15000. (ntn.com drops us to a more believable 20th out of 1973 bars).

Greg the manager sneaks up from behind with the remote and switches channels to the Ultimate Fight PPV and runs back to the behind the bar. This happens at the second break. I actually get three out of the last five questions right playing 'blind'. This was our turn to go to the Squire & Firkin and although I like being able to walk here rather than take two subways to play, this channel changing happened the last PPV a few months ago. We'll plan it a bit better next time as the other Firkin doesn't subscibe to these PPVs.
I gave a demo at work on Friday during a seminar for our team at work about my web site. It was mostly showing off the soccer half of my pages but I did cross over to the NTN part to play around with this trivia. I got moved up to earlier because we had two guest speakers who ended up 'no showing' because of the snow storm. It worked out alright as we got out early and I didn't look like an ogre for keeping people there as I gave 'my hobby' spiel in the morning. We don't have the true internet at work as management thinks we'll be surfing around in working hours. We're restricted to our own site. I made some points that we're poorly informed when our own site is updated.
