NTN Encore Question of November 10th, 2007.
Played at The Squire & Firkin in Etobicoke, Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing with one board as ROCKET, with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA, LeeAnn CAPER and Phil PLBAAB at The Frog & Firkin.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...1st/5...I win with COSMO and CAPER. 2 for 3 in guessing. OnBeat...ROCKET...11500/14000...2nd/5...METLCA wins round. I go 7 right and 2 wrong and got help on one of them. I've still got lots of catching up to do but was lucky it was items I'd read before. JukeBox...ROCKET...17389/20000...2nd/5...I win round. We pick choose the two Joni Mitchell questions. I was applying stamps to my Christmas and Acknowledgement cards today using Joni Mitchell, Paul Anka, Gordon Lightfoot, and Anne Murray stamps. Triviaoke...ROCKET...21129/28000...2nd/5...COSMO wins round. I take either 3 or 4 -250s this round including the Gordon Lightfoot lyrics. Rob got me the last question which was of a Daughtry song currently on the charts.

Now the Encore answers come up. 1950s? Why would Don McLean be here then?

Rob gets the answer for us first. Very appropriate as he has the lead. I can back him up as I realize to ignore the first part of the question which I'd never heard before and concentrate on "song title by what artist?" Then it's easy and could have only been made more difficult if there were more 50's R&B and doo-wop groups offered. I remember seeing a TV record offer many years ago for this group's greatest hits and have that welded into my memory.
Correct Answer:....4. The Platters
[NTN Extra Fact:...Chrissie Hynde caught the music bug after attending a Mitch Ryder concert in 1965.]
I'm right and stay in 2nd as ROCKET at 31693 points. I finish 32nd overall in all North America. The bar is 15th in North America with a 29824 average. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 16000. Rob won and finished 20th on the Network Top 20 and 1st on this bar's Hall Of Fame board by almost double the score of the next closest entrant.
[NTN.com left us in 15th place out of 1650 bars].
It looked like this game was very rarely played here on a Saturday night. We asked for a television to be changed as every channel was switched to Hockey Night In Canada. I've certainly played better games and we had the minimum boards to rank this bar but the angle was impossible for some of them to comfortably play but it was good to find a place so far away from my home bar. I didn't ask for a second board.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank COSMO 21839 32758 20 55 ROCKET 21129 31693 32 83 METLCA 20210 30315 46 124 CAPER 18347 27520 188 216 PLBAAB 17891 26836 432 247 [NTN.com listed 7002 players]
Other games:...I'm visiting so don't know what my Players Points balance is.
8:00pm...JukeBox...ROCKET...9133/14000...1st/5...1000+ points...I'm 1491st in NA...I'm not sure what the bar score was but it wasn't very good because I was the first to sign on.
8:30pm...Tuned In Trivia...ROCKET...10870/15000...2nd/5...1000+ points...I'm 711th in NA...bar is 374th in NA...COSMO wins. I have lots of help in this game.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...RetroTV Countdown...ROCKET...13547/15000...2nd/5...1000+ points...I'm 267th in NA...bar is 170th.
We'd started the night at MacKenzie's Bar & Grill in the west end of Toronto. It was a small bar but they couldn't spare one screen out of seven from the hockey game unless we'd wait until 10:00pm so we left and Rob drove us in his cube van to The Squire & Firkin. It was full of cartons of 'Little Debbie' cakes and I was just hoping I wouldn't be crushed if he'd taken a sharp corner. The Squire & Firkin my friends declared later had better food than The Frog & Firkin. I can't comment as I always have supper just before I come out. This bar had karaoke at 10:00pm but didn't have enough participants when the MC and the sound engineer had to sing half the songs. The bar was near the Islington subway but I didn't like that it took more than one hour for me to get home.
