NTN Encore Question of September 29th, 2007.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Mars Lasar
  2. Tangerine Dream
  3. Yanni
  4. Mannheim Steamroller
  5. The Flaming Lips

Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA and Phil PLBAAB at The Frog & Firkin. I just got a second board before this game started.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...2nd/12...CHATZ wins round.
..........LITBOX...4500/5000...2nd/12...I'm in a five way tie for 2nd.
OnBeat...ROCKET...9500/14000...5th/12...PJ wins round and ties CHATZ at 11000.
..........LITBOX...9500/14000...5th/12.
I would have got only four on my own but my friends got me two and cost me one. I hope this is the low water mark
for this round and I can gradually spend more time reading about music again as the soccer season winds down.
JukeBox...ROCKET...15460/20000...3rd/12...my two boards win round.
...........LITBOX...15460/20000...3rd/12.
This was a good round for me as our five boards climbed above the other group playing near the bar.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...22414/28000...3rd/12...LITBOX wins this round.
.........LITBOX...22433/28000...2nd/12.
Another good round for me. I don't think I took a -250. I got the final question of the round which was a Matchbox 20
song from an album that will only be released next week. I expect it's been out as a single for awhile but I've never
heard it. Good comeback!

Now the Encore answers come up. Oh no. This could be tough. I miss so many weeks that I would have got with no problem then show up for a possible tough one. Since we're at a monitor that's far away, I walk close to the screen to dictate the scores into my microrecorder.

Encore Question:...Chip Davis was a pioneer of neo-classical electronic music under this alias:

.

.

.

.

I don't know this. I rule out The Flaming Lips right away because I know the name of the leader of this band. I go back to the table and also add that Yanni is a real guy. I've mentally ruled out Mannheim Steamroller because I think that's a real group (ie. more than one member) and believe they are actually from Mannheim Germany and the guys would have German names. Rob tells me the answer '4'. I had resolved not to guess '1' for a name I'd never heard of. Now Tangerine Dream is from Germany so they'd have German names so great I'd have thrown all the answers out. Once again thanks to Rob for getting this for us. I make sure Sean has pressed in Phil's playmaker as he'd wondered off. I only knew Mannheim Steamroller for their instrumental Christmas albums.

Correct Answer:....4. Mannheim Steamroller

[NTN Extra Fact:...Davis created the ficticious band to promote his album "Fresh Aire" in 1974.]

I'm right and stay in 2nd as LITBOX at 33649 points. I finish 14th overall in all North America. The bar is 3rd in North America with a 32393 average. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 19000. Sean won and finished 9th on the Netword Top 20 and 9th on this bar's Hall Of Fame board.
[NTN.com ended up listing 1628 bars]

The folks at the other side of the bar got this question too because Richard BERGIE said he had bought a Mannheim Steamroller album within the last three weeks.

I'd started the evening playing at the bar because my friends weren't here and all other televisions were dialed to the pre-season hockey game. I didn't think Rob was going to be here at all but they all got here after 8:30pm. Rob left as soon as the Playback ended so long enough to save us on the Encore question.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
