NTN Encore Question of May 5th, 2007.
Played at Joe Mercury's in Toronto, Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Paulina Rubio
  2. Anastacia
  3. Jennifer Lopez
  4. Selena
  5. Shakira

Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Sean METLCA, Rob COSMO, and Phil PLBAAB. We've done better than usual this week just like we used to do months ago. This will be my last Saturday playing trivia for a few weeks as the soccer season is going to clash.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...3500/5000...3rd/9...JIMBAM wins with 4500.
..........LITBOX...3500/5000...3rd/9.
I go 2 for 5 on guessing the answers I don't know. We used to do great in this round.
OnBeat...ROCKET...11500/14000...2nd/9...our five boards win this round.
..........LITBOX...11500/14000...2nd/9.
I ran this round as 8 right and 1 wrong. Hey they asked the name of the (Canadian group) Tragically Hip album
that came out here around Christmas. Two of the questions I wouldn't have known except the answers only listed
one member of the group (Phish and Crowded House) who were coming out with solo albums so they were easy.
I should have had the last one too except I picked an answer before I'd read through all the choices.
JukeBox...ROCKET...15125/20000...2nd/9...COSMO wins round.
...........LITBOX...15106/20000...3rd/9.
We've done better in this round. I later read the alternates weren't any better.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...22776/28000...1st/9...METLCA wins round.
.........LITBOX...22717/28000...1st/9.
I didn't take any -250 in this round so was happy at the end. Even the 8th song which is always something modern was easy
enough because it was actually the title Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend'. Some of the other answers were actually song titles.

Now the Encore answers come up. Latin stars? Well except Anastacia is American but popular in Europe. This one could be very tough.

Encore Question:...'Oral Fixation, Vol. 2' was reissued in 2006 to include the single "Hips Don't Lie":

I know this right away by the second word. Rob says it at the same time as me. Good thing as the waitress is at our table distracting the others. Rob even pressed Phil's board. That's about the easiest thing they could have asked. The song was 5th on Billboard's Top 100 Singles of the 2006 year. I bought both the original album when I found it on sale (now I know why because within three weeks later they added two more songs). After Christmas I broke down and bought the reissue too. Haven't learned much as I've done the same for Beyonce too although the new compilation has a now banned-for-copywrite-infringement song on it.

Correct Answer:....5. Shakira

[NTN Extra Fact:...The 2005 release was the first all English release album from the Latin American songstress.]
Hmm. I guess my copy of 'Laundry Service' must have some Spanish songs. 'Shakira' was an Encore question a years ago when she was unknown in North America and two friends who had returned from vacation in Venezuela said they heard that she was from Columbia. It's the only time I've ever been in a bunch that's finished #1 in the Playback game.

I'm right and win with ROCKET at 34164. I finish 8th on the Top 20 in all North America. The bar is 4th in North America with a 33416 average. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 19000 points.

[NTN.com keeps us in 4th out of 1813 bars].

Here's how the rest of the bar did:

Other games:...I'm visiting so don't know what my Players Plus scores are:
7:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...1850/15000...4th/6...500+ points...I'm 8170th in NA...bar is 1027...I'm here in time for the last four questions.

Oh I know nothing about NASCAR racing and am proud of that. The standard was only 400 for the P+ points so I just had to be alert to change for 20 points a question. A few I didn't have to change and maybe two I knew so I made it with some to spare. I had been looking forward to playing JukeBox but noone changed the game.
8:30pm...Tuned In Trivia...ROCKET...11937/15000...5th/7...1000+ points...I missed my rank...bar is 1st in North America but I missed seeing our average....Sean advises me to ditch my Playmaker when I complain that I can hardly read the numbers. I do at the break but when I log in on a new board I'm able to jump back to my old score and continue so it only cost two questions. I thought I'd have to start again.
...............LITBOX...13923/15000...3rd/7...1000+ points...I'm 4th? in NA...METLCA wins and is #1 in North America with a score of 14513.
I thought this game was easier than other weeks because there wasn't 'new' television questions like 'The Simpsons' nor 'Party Of Five'...I have lots of help in this game.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...RetroTV Countdown...ROCKET...13869/15000...1st/8...1000+ points...I'm 44th in NA.
..............LITBOX...13835/15000...2nd/8...1000+ points...I'm 47th in NA...bar is 84th in NA.
