NTN Encore Question of December 2nd, 2006.
Played at Joe Mercury's in Toronto Ontario.
Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA, and Phil PLBAAB. I'd checked the ntn.com site during the week to check that this bar did get to play Playback last week so two weeks ago must have been a fluke.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...4th/8...TCB wins. ..........LITBOX...4000/5000...4th/8. I knew everything until the last three questions when I had to guess and then was only 1 of 3. OnBeat...ROCKET...11000/14000...2nd/8...my two boards and COSMO, METLCA, and PLBAAB co-win this round. ..........LITBOX...11000/14000...2nd/8. 7 right and 2 wrong was alright but those few I hadn't heard. JukeBox...ROCKET...16101/20000...4th/8...LITBOX wins round. ...........LITBOX...16107/20000...2nd/8. I got the "BareNaked Ladies" categories. Some lyrics to "One Week" were asked. here's some more lyrics pictured in the soccer stadium at the bottom of this page Birchmount Stadium photo Triviaoke...ROCKET...20579/28000...3rd/7...I'm not sure who won this round. .........LITBOX...20571/28000...4th/7. I took two -250s. The Karoake started half hour early tonight so it made it difficult to hear each other.
Now the Encore answers come up. R&B groups. I say I only know a little about two of these groups.
Encore Question:...In the 1970's Phillippe Wynne was the lead singer for which band?:
I don't know this. The others ask me if I know. I use this logic to choose. The two groups I know are from the 1970s but I know Eugene Record was the lead singer of The Chi-lites. The Dells I expect were from the 1950s. The Spinners were from the 1970s. I'm asked if all these are real groups. Wrong decade I think. OK we're in.
Now let me say what is so wrong with that logic. I've mixed The Dells with The Browns who had a song with "The Three Bells" which at least rhymes. They were in the 1960s and 1970s. The Dramatics and The Moments were active in the 1970s. Wow was I lucky to not know enough about them to put them as a choice or I'd have been like last week with a one in four chance! Rob also added a twist as he said this guy could have been replacement for a singer from a 1950s band.
Correct Answer:....2. The Spinners
[NTN Extra Fact:...The Spinners songs include "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" and "Rubberband Man".]
I'm right and stay in third place as ROCKET with 30868. I finish 8th overall in all North America. The bar is 3rd in North America with a 31288 average. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 17000 points. [ntn.com leaves our bar in 3rd place out of 1618 bars].
The scores were so low this week that we know something is wrong because a bar average of 10475 and an individual score of 19267 would make the Top 20.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank METLCA 22159 33238 4 9 PLBAAB 21126 31689 6 15 ROCKET 20579 30868 7 20 LITBOX 20571 30856 8 21 COSMO 19862 29793 10 26 TCB 16006 x 8003 5771 2013 HEVY D 12455 18682 129 348 [ntn.com listed 6659 players]...actually peeling out those players who played repeat games, our top five could move up 2 spots.
Other games:...I'm visiting so can't check my P+ points.
8:00pm...Jukebox...ROCKET...12012/14000...3rd/5...1000+ points...COSMO wins. I'm 236th in NA...bar is 7th with an 11331 average on the World board (!) which only includes less than 20 teams and multi lists a bar in Devon UK.
8:30pm...Tuned-in TV...ROCKET...10713/15000...1st/8...1000+ points...I'm 1629th in NA...bar is 276th in NA.
...............LITBOX...10690/15000...2nd/8...1000+ points...I'm 1647th in NA.
One Simpson's questions this week which I guess before the others.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...RetroTV Countdown...ROCKET...14820/15000...2nd/8...1000+ points...I'm 111th in NA.
..............LITBOX...14796/15000...3rd/8...1000+ points...I'm 127th in NA...bar is 17th in NA with a 14541st average.
Great score and not a repeat game. Looks like we're back in the mainstream of the 8000 other bars for this game.
