NTN Encore Question of October 7th, 2006.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Doris Troy
  2. Fontana Bass
  3. Aretha Franklin
  4. Ruth Brown
  5. Little Eva

Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA, and Phil PLBAAB. I had driven home from two semi-final soccer games and then taken the subway here because I didn't have time to walk.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/8...my two win round.
..........LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/8.
I guessed 2 for 2 in this round.
OnBeat...ROCKET...13000/14000...1st/8...I win round going 8 for 9.
..........LITBOX...13000/14000...1st/8.
8 right and 1 wrong was a great round. The missed answer was something I hadn't heard before.
JukeBox...ROCKET...17384/20000...2nd/8...PLBAAB wins round.
...........LITBOX...17388/20000...1st/8
Triviaoke...ROCKET...23287/28000...2nd/7...METLCA wins round and takes lead.
.........LITBOX...23332/28000...1st/7.
I didn't take any -250s but changed late on two of them.

Now the Encore answers come up. Females from the 1960s? I didn't think this might be difficult. It was more the distractions as on TV, the Leafs were in a shootout so every minute there'd be a whoop or a groan for either a stop or a score. The food was coming to our table. Looks like I'm the one paying attention.

Encore Question:...She a hit single in 1965 with "Rescue Me":

I know this one before the answers come back up and say it to Rob. Let's make sure the others answer before they start eating. The only song of her's that I know.

Correct Answer:....2. Fontana Bass

[NTN Extra Fact:...She later went on to sing with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and avante garde jazz group.]

I'm right win as LITBOX. I finish 6th overall in all North America. The bar is 5th in North America with a 31750 average. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 17000 points. [ntn.com moved us up a spot to 4th place out of 1549 bars].

I suppose if you heard the song, you would think it sounds like Aretha Franklin. When I spoke with a non-playing friend the next day, he'd heard the song but Franklin sang it. It was before my time but I've heard enough Oldies shows to have heard this many times. The bar score averages were really low this week, only 20000 would have got a location onto the Top 20 and 30000 would get an individual listed.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
LITBOX	23332 34998 6 22
ROCKET	23287 34930 7 23
COSMO	20996 31494 11 46
METLCA	19182 28733 21 78
PLBAAB	19039 28559 22 84
KIMCHI	12463 18964	1958 341
BERGIE	10089	x 5045	8218	2568
KOTTER 2250	x 1125	9602	5117
[ntn.com listed 6148 players]
