NTN Encore Question of February 11th, 2006.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Barry Manilow
  2. Elton John
  3. Neil Diamond
  4. Billy Joel
  5. Gordon Lightfoot

Tonight I'm playing with one board as ROCKET with Rob COSMO and Phil PLBAAB. Playmaker boards are a rarity tonight because many are missing and there is a modest sized NTN Poker game being played by about seven people. This bar has a set of about 20 minus any that happen to be broken that week. I didn't get one of the available ones until five questions into the 8:00pm Countdown game. It's #13 which is one my friends know isn't broken or on a matching frequency with another board. Hmm an omen? The night staff aren't sure why so many boards are missing. Sean was here in spirit because he e-mailed me the full list of Grammy winners. As I'd expected, because the Grammy Awards weren't held until Wednesday night, there weren't any questions about this year's awards this week.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...2nd/3...COSMO wins with 4500.
I'm 0 for 2 in guessing...they've asked the Jeff Healey question before; we all know it and Phil said he
was at "Healey's" bar last night. Jeff Healey owns this restaurant/blues nightclub in downtown Toronto.
OnBeat...ROCKET...12000/14000...3rd/3...PLBAAB takes the lead with 9 for 9.
8 right and 1 wrong was a very good. There was a question about Neil Young's new movie.
JukeBox...ROCKET...17176/20000...2nd/3...I win round.
Rob gets us to vote for the Judy Collins questions and they turn out pretty easy. One turned into a list
of Joni Mitchell songs.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...22494/28000...1st/3...COSMO wins round.
I took two -250s in this round near the end which limited my chance for a really high score.

Now the Encore answers come up. One Canadian choice. We know enough about these guys to get it I expect.

Encore Question:...Who wrote the Grammy winning film score for 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'?

Rob says the answer before the question comes back. I know the answer too and hadn't even realized he was listed as one of the choices. I knew about this movie when it came out in the 1970s. I think I typed the original novel for practise in a typing class when I went to school. I can't remember hearing the songs on the radio but read all about the artist's link to the movie. Nope, not the Canadian artist.

Correct Answer:....3. Neil Diamond

[NTN Extra Fact:...It's the only Grammy he's won in his career.]

I'm right and win as ROCKET at 33741. I finish 13th on the Network Top 20 for all North America. The bar is 820th in North America with our three boards. I earn 3000+ points for making this week's standard of 18000. I place 4th on this bar's Hall Of Fame. Some of my old scores from over a year ago are disappearing. [NTN.com ended up moving our bar to 70th out of 1930 with a 19858 average].

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
ROCKET	22494 33741 13 47
COSMO	22335 33502 14 50
PLBAAB	21366 32049 31 87
[NTN.com listed 8513 players]

Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 3,367,000 P+ points.
8:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...7530/15000...3rd/3...1000+ points...I miss my ranking...COSMO wins.
I get a board in time for the 6th question.
8:30pm...Tuned In TV Countdown...ROCKET...12379/15000...1st/3...1000+ points...I'm 94th in NA...bar is 1090th.
One Simpsons question this week which we couldn't get.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
I didn't earn 500+ points in the Dodge Truck game this week but since we had enough boards to cover all the answers, Rob got it for covering 1. White (same winner as last week). No monitors showed the game.
10:00pm...RetroTV Countdown...ROCKET...14127/15000...1st/3...1000+ points...I'm 41st in NA.
