NTN Encore Question of November 26th, 2005.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Junior Murvin
  2. Bob Marley
  3. Sugar Minott
  4. Desmond Dekker
  5. Jimmy Cliff

Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA and Phil PLBAAB as the minimum five boards to rank our bar. There was no problem this week playing trivia games while most people watched the hockey game and no monitors were switched to video poker. Rob said the choice of avoiding QB1 was made at 7:00pm when there was a vote on it.

It was the first time I was able to play Playback in three weeks.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/5...all five of our boards co-won this round.
..........LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/5.
the guys helped me out on three choices.
OnBeat...ROCKET...13000/14000...3rd/5...METLCA and PLBAAB win round.
..........LITBOX...13000/14000...3rd/5.
8 right and 1 wrong is pretty good as I hadn't seen what the OnBeats have been for the last two games. This time
of year is easier than most because there's so much new product out there and most questions were about
new albums and songs.
JukeBox...ROCKET...17135/20000...4th/5...COSMO wins round.
...........LITBOX...17121/20000...5th/5.
I take a rare -250 as I thought I changed my answer in plenty of time but turn around when the Leafs score the
winning goal in the hockey game.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...21693/28000...4th/5...COSMO wins round and takes the lead on the last question.
.........LITBOX...21656/28000...5th/5.
I took two -250s in this round. The other guys helped me more than they hindered but I was too slow to change on one.
I got the lyrics to local band Our Lady Peace "Somewhere Out There".

Now the Encore answers come up. Reggae stars? They've never asked this category of music before. Two of these guys I haven't heard of and I don't know much on any of them.

Encore Question:...The Clash covered this reggae artist's song "Police & Thieves" on their 1977 debut album:

.

.

.

.

I don't know this. Phil says he owns that Clash album. I think I may have it on my Clash greatest hits album but I'm thinking I have the original song on a compilation CD. I think it's the same album as I almost looked for earlier in the week for the Marsha Griffiths dance/song "Electric Slide" I was looking to download because the copy I have is different than the version I remember years ago played at a Club Med resort. For "Police & Thieves" all I can remember is the women back-up singers. I choose '5' maybe thinking of the Jimmy Cliff movie "The Harder They Come" which I'd heard was about law and order.

Correct Answer:....1. Junior Murvin

[NTN Extra Fact:..."Police & Thieves" was also the title track of a 1977 album by Murvin.]

I'm wrong and hold my positions in 4th and 5th. I finish 280th and 281st in all North America. The bar is 16th in North America with a 13221 average. COSMO holds on to his lead by betting low but he says that was an accident. I earn only 1500+ points for not making this week's standard of 18000. [ntn.com moved us down to 26th place out of 1741 bars].

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
COSMO	23979	x	21582 31 77
METLCA	23381	x	11691 231 712
PLBAAB	22317	x	11159 262 852
ROCKET	21693	x	10847 280 936
LITBOX	21656	x	10828 281 943
[ntn.com listed 7510 players]

Our bar was 16th with a score like that? Others must agree that this must have been a tough game. I find when I got home that the song isn't on the Clash album I have and not on the CD I thought it was but on an old cassette tape called "Jammin'" which did have the Marsha Griffiths song on it. Nuts, if only I'd looked that up earlier in the week.

Last week I was playing trivia with two friends at one guy's church club. It was an old-style pen and paper with teams. I was surprised we didn't win but it was fun nevertheless. I didn't see a posting of last week's Encore question on the Playback message board. Traffic has almost stopped there in the last month.

Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 3,307,000 P+ points and LITBOX at 1,103,000.
7:30pm...College Football Countdown...ROCKET...1826/15000...4th/5...500+ points...missed standings.
............LITBOX...1796/15000...5th/5...500+ points...I was here in time for the last five questions...METLCA wins.
I was worried this meant this was QB1 but it must have been a replacement for the NASCAR racing trivia now that the season is over. 8:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...12995/15000...2nd/5...1000+ points...4th overall.
............LITBOX...12986/15000...3rd/5...1000+ points...5th overall...bar is 2nd in our area with a 12806 average.
COSMO wins and is 3rd in NA with a 13343 average. I don't know what all the other bars were playing. Does American Thanksgiving really keep people from going out? The P+ standards were all 3000+ points for these games tonight.
8:30pm...Tuned In Countdown...ROCKET...9788/15000...2nd/5...1000+ points...I'm 308th in NA.
..............LITBOX...9733/15000...3rd/5...1000+ points...I'm 314th in NA...COSMO wins...bar is 540th.
No Simpsons' questions this week but three for 7th Heaven which I've never watched. Phil arrives in the middle of the game and Rob gives him one of his boards.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
after this game we can't even try for an easy 500+ in the Dodge Truck race betting game.
10:00pm...RetroTV...ROCKET...13796/15000...3rd/6...1000+ points...I'm 137th in NA.
...........LITBOX...13760/15000...4th/6...1000+ points...I'm 143rd in NA...bar is 47th in NA.

Next week I plan on going to "Joe Mercury's".
