Encore Question of August 6th, 2005.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA, Phil PLBAAB and Richard BERGIE. I'm really surprised the any of them are here because the first three rotate to another bar every other week and Richard doesn't play this game on Saturday nights much anymore.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...5th/7...LITBOX, COSMO, METLCA, and PLBAAB win round. ..........LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/7. I split on one and am wrong once on two guesses. OnBeat...ROCKET...11000/14000...5th/6...my two co-win round with some of the others. ..........LITBOX...11500/14000...1st/5. 7 right and 2 wrong was pretty good but I needed help to do that well. I saved study time to the last minute then got distracted when I saw two patrons of this bar on the television news then tried to catch the story on subsequent newscasts. More on them further down this report. JukeBox...ROCKET...15647/20000...2nd/6...LITBOX wins round. ...........LITBOX...16152/20000...1st/6. We got the categories we wanted. I sunk us for naming the wrong duet team of 'A Summer Song' and didn't look up when they gave the right answer so we all took -250. Triviaoke...ROCKET...20862/28000...2nd/6...BERGIE wins round. .........LITBOX...21337/28000...1st/5. I didn't have any -250s this round but thanks to help that rescued me three times with answers that had me scoring around 50 points each time. Thinking of last week I later remembered the only other time I had a speaking part on television. I was asked to comment on the Boxing Day sale coming out of Sam The Record Man and remembered when they captioned my name on the news they spelled my name wrong.
Now the Encore answers come up. Female singers. This could be anything.
Encore Question:..."Rocket Man" was originallly recorded by Elton John. Who else did a version of it?
I'm quite confident I know this. Richard says he's not so sure. I then start singing it using the wild arm gestures of Kate Bush. I'm trying to think where I saw her do this. Once you've seen it you'll never forget it. Like many of her performances from that era, she was in ballet tights and the frizzy hair and waving her arms all about. I have to add to our table, "with Chad & Jeremy in the background" after the question I blew in the JukeBox round. "and Peter & Gordon too" someone else said. Hey my nickname is Rocket so that gives me even more credibility. [Back at home I find I have the video clip in my extensive archives probably copied from some video show over 20 years ago].
Correct Answer:....5. Kate Bush
[NTN Extra Fact:...William Shatner can also be heard mangling the song in a bootleg version.]
I'm right and win as LITBOX with 32005. I finish 13th on the Network Top 20 in all North America. The bar finishes at 4th in all North America with a 30631 average. I earn 3000+ points for meeting this week's standard of 15000 points. [ntn.com kept our bar in 4th place out of 1893 bars in North America with a 30631 average].
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank LITBOX 21337 32005 13 22 ROCKET 20862 31293 15 29 METLCA 20198 30297 19 37 BERGIE 20106 30159 21 42 COSMO 19725 29404 30 59 PLBAAB 16725 25087 78 198 [ntn.com listed 7855 players]
I found a news story of some long time bar patrons Bill MADDOG and Bryan OLDUDE who made the television local newscast today and cut into my study time and were the front page headline on the Toronto Sun. I got to see the news story again because it made the national newscast that evening.
