Encore Question of July 30th, 2005.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO/CYCLER and Phil PLBAAB. We've got the only five boards playing this game. I got here later than usual and came directly from the Caribana parade in downtown Toronto. I've got my camera with me so get some pictures tonight. Sunburned nose and neck and very tired from standing so long.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...2nd/5...LITBOX wins round. ..........LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/5. I split on one and am wrong once on two guesses. Hey friends, answer all the questions please. OnBeat...ROCKET...11000/14000...2nd/5...my two win round but I can't remember that the others went with my answers. ..........LITBOX...11500/14000...1st/5. 7 right and 2 wrong was pretty good. I've got to remember to read through the Singles charts before I come here and I would have had one more. JukeBox...ROCKET...16653/20000...2nd/5...LITBOX wins round. ...........LITBOX...17182/20000...1st/5. We got the categories we wanted although some of them we didn't know what we were getting. Triviaoke...ROCKET...22923/28000...2nd/5...LITBOX wins round. .........LITBOX...23463/28000...1st/5. I took only one -250 this round and that was the Duran Duran lyric I should have known. One of the new songs had the title lyric in it so good call by Phil. The Duran Duran song had be boasting that I was in the Duran Duran video for "The Reflex" that was filmed at Maple Leaf Gardens and had a crowd scene. Well I couldn't make out if it was me despite freeze framing. Obviously the special effects of an ocean wave parting was dubbed in later as maybe the fashion models in the front row. Maybe I was in the Rolling Stones SARRStock concert too among 450,000 but I haven't played that back. When I got home, I saw myself on the news when the camera panned the crowd. Too bad this is the one newscast that they don't rerun early the next morning. Soccer games I've seen myself in but the one speaking role I've ever had was on a kiddy's soccer show where I talked about keeping my soccer web page with this young boy co-host. Ironically the boy, now a teenager, who interviewed me wrote me an e-mail last week thanking me for mentioning his rock band as the halftime entertainment in some of my soccer game reports.

Now the Encore answers come up. Song Titles. This should be tough.
Encore Question:...The catchy tune is found on the Counting Crows album "This Desert Life":

We don't know this. I could only remember "American Girls" as being a Tom Petty song [actually American Girl]. Now seeing the question that brought out that "Long December" was a possibility. That sounded good as soon as Phil said he'd go with that. Rob split his two answers to cover other possibilties including switching off "Long December".
Correct Answer:....1. Mrs Potter's Lullaby
[NTN Extra Fact:..."Hey Mrs Potter won't you talk to me" sings Adam Duritz on the song he penned himself.]
[I find that 'Daylight Fading' and 'Long December' were also Counting Crows songs but from an earlier album which I own.]
I'm wrong and fall to 2nd as LITBOX with 11732. Network scores for top bar and individual players in North America are not shown. The bar finishes at 33rd in all North America so with our bad scores, we're either cut off from the network or most bars missed the last question. I earn only 1500+ points for missing this week's standard of 16000 points. My correct Encore streak ends at nine. Rob wins when he splits his boards to cover '1' and '5'. [ntn.com moved us down to 36th out of 1952 bars with a 14728 average].
I know this is probably nothing to do with the song, but I was thinking about Harry Potter and some long ago Countdown question about the author earlier today. I wonder if the NTN writer was more of a Counting Crows fan or fan of the newest Potter book which just came out less than a month ago.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank LITBOX 23463 x 11732 ---- 852 ROCKET 22923 x 11482 ---- 921 COSMO 20815 31222 ---- 14 PLBAAB 19986 x 9993 ---- 1297 CYCLER 18466 x 9233 ---- 1550 [ntn.com listed 8322 players]
I had a few shots left on my camera disk from the parade I'd gone to earlier today and they're posted to a file.
Tonight's pictures
Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 3,253,000 P+ points and LITBOX at 1,056,000.
