Encore Question of February 5th, 2005.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Sonic Youth
  2. The Grass Roots
  3. Pearl Jam
  4. REM
  5. Green Day

Tonight I'm playing alone using two boards ROCKET and LITBOX. I've moved along the bar so I can see better without the glare of the overhead light.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...1st/4...my two boards win round.
..........LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/4.
I went two for three in guessing.
OnBeat...ROCKET...13500/14000...1st/5...my two win round.
..........LITBOX...13500/14000...1st/5.
I go 9 for 9 in this round. Hey this is an excellent score so far.
JukeBox...ROCKET...19272/20000...1st/8...my two win round.
...........LITBOX...19272/20000...1st/8.
I got all the categories I wanted. Two 'The Sound Of Music' questions and two on Brian Wilson. There's some
penpal site I joined years ago where I answered my favourite song as 'Brian Wilson' by Barenaked Ladies.
Is this going to be one of those once a year games where everything goes right?...
Triviaoke...ROCKET...23236/28000...1st/5...TIFF wins round.
.........LITBOX...23236/28000...1st/5.
Nope! I took three -250s for this round and it could have been worse except a guy doing a crossword puzzle beside me
gave me the answer to the often asked Guns'N Roses lyric.

Now the Encore answers come up. Hmm well one group's from a different era than the rest.

Encore Question:..."I'm not growing up, I'm just burning out" is a lyric made popular in the 1990's by:

Well before the answers come back up I know it's not The Grass Roots because they haven't been heard from since the early 1970s. No one else I can put out. And I thought I'd suffered enough on Triviaoke questions this week. Well I choose the NTN quizmasters favourite group Sonic Youth even though I don't know of any of their songs. I think that REM isn't quite that gloomy in the 1990s but I'm not sure. Green Day would be perfect but then Pearl Jam could sing this line.

Correct Answer:....5. Green Day

[NTN Extra Fact:...The song is found on the 1993 album "Dookie".]

I'm wrong and fall to 3rd on my two boards at 11618. I finish 3428th in North America. The bar finishes 1289th in North America. I earn only 1500 Players Plus points for missing this week's standard of 16000. TIFF wins. [NTN.com moved us up to 282nd of 2251 bars]

It's worse than that as I was playing that album two weeks ago when I played their 'American Idiot' CD and wanted to compare their sound a decade apart. The song is called "Burnout" and I had the lyrics but didn't read them. I played the song again when I got home but have forgotten it already the next morning. Getting the Encore right would have just edged me into the top 20. They gave us a Green Day vs Bad Religion question in the Tune Up round which I guessed right. I avoided both the Alt Rock Frontmen questions in the JukeBox round but now I couldn't get around not knowing this.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
ROCKET	23236	x	11618	3428	2967
LITBOX	23236	x	11618	3428	2968
TIFF	18797 28195 144 296
DWC	15728 23592 218 793
FPSKS 4473	x 2237	8734	9435
[NTN.com listed 11534 players]
