Encore Question of January 8th, 2005.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Joni Mitchell
  2. Loretta Lynn
  3. Alison Krauss
  4. Diana Ross
  5. Barbra Streisand

Tonight I'm playing with Don MOLLY and I have three boards, ROCKET and LITBOX and non P+ L CITY (named for the CPSL team London City).

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/11...my three boards win round.
..........LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/11.
..........L CITY...5000/5000...1st/11.
I was 2 for 2 in semi-guessing the answers for those I wasn't absolutely sure.
OnBeat...ROCKET...11000/14000...1st/11...my three win round.
..........LITBOX...11000/14000...1st/11.
..........L CITY...11000/14000...1st/11.
I score 6 right and 3 wrong. It was a guess on the last question for some unknown band to me and I should have
guessed '1' as that had been the most popular answer. There seems to be a pattern during this round.
JukeBox...ROCKET...16987/20000...1st/11...ROCKET wins round.
...........LITBOX...16978/20000...2nd/11.
...........L CITY...16824/20000...3rd/11.
I was quite pleased with this round. I got outvoted in a few categories but the questions turned out very easy.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...21519/28000...1st/11...ROCKET wins round.
.........LITBOX...21460/28000...2nd/11.
..........L CITY...21046/28000...3rd/11.
I took two -250s for this round.

Now the Encore answers come up. Quite a group of women. Nothing in common. This could be tough.

Encore Question:...She has won more Grammys than any other female artist:

.

.

.

Ooh I don't know this. A straight up Grammy fact. I choose '4' as my logic is choose a long career, and someone who'd have crossover appeal that would win in multiple categories. So more likely Diana Ross would be more likely to win "Best Black/R&B/Soul (whatever that category name keeps changing to)" and "Best Pop" in the same year. More likely than Loretta Lynn doing the same for Country and Pop.

I told Don not to pick Alison Krauss because she had the shortest career. Even if she won "Best Bluegrass" ten years in a row that's all she could win right? He chose Loretta Lynn.

Correct Answer:....3. Alison Krauss

[NTN Extra Fact:...Her three awards in 2004 gave her 17; one more that Aretha Franklin.]

Great fact! NTN didn't make it tougher by putting in the second place finisher but Alison Krauss would have been my last choice. It turns out by looking at www.Grammy.com , I picked out the worst choice because Diana Ross both solo and with the Supremes never won a Grammy. Joni Mitchell won 5, Loretta Lynn won 1, and Barbra Streisand won 9. I couldn't find that this site listed winners in a most wins category but a brief search of any man's name I could think of I came up with Stevie Wonder and Leonard Bernstein winning 19 each.

I'm wrong and finish second as ROCKET with 10760. I finish 113th in North America. The bar finishes 148th in North America with a 10469 average. I earn only 1500 Players Plus points for missing this week's standard of 15000. I missed seeing the Hall of Fame scores but AMELIE may have taken 10th if it was better than last week's score. Every good score now will displace the 10th place score for the next year now that we've had ten games with the new Playmakers. [ntn.com moved our bar up to 133rd out of 1758 bars].

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
ROCKET	21519	x	10760 113 902
LITBOX	21460	x	10730 114 910
L CITY	21046	x	10523 117 969
MOLLY	17615	x 8828 158	1632
AMELIE	12331	x	11098 105 786
JOPUNK	10259	x 9234 148	1429
JOJO 5901	x 5311	3699	4436
ME 5194	x 2597	6918	6485
FITZ 4500	x 2250	????	6735
PEBS 3198	x 1599	8102	7211
ART 2340	x 2106	????	6833
[ntn.com listed 8453 players]

The question wiped out the whole bar which has happened quite often before but the surprise was there weren't very many players at other sites got this right even at all the bars with the dozens of Playmakers that can split and cover all the answers. That made me feel much better.

Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 3,114,000 P+ points and LITBOX at 922,000.
8:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...10910/15000...2nd/9...1000+ points...I'm 190th in NA...bar is 485th.
..............LITBOX...10902/15000...3rd/9...1000+ points...I'm 191st in NA...FREEKS wins.
8:30pm...Tuned In Countdown...ROCKET...11429/15000...1st/8...1000+ points...I'm 251st in NA.
..............LITBOX...11393/15000...2nd/8...1000+ points...I'm 261st in NA...bar is 885th.
I scored well because there weren't really any 1990 nor 2000 era television questions.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...RetroTV Countdown...ROCKET...10214/15000...3rd/6...1000+ points...I'm 448th in NA.
............LITBOX...10217/15000...2nd/6...1000+ points...I'm 451st in NA...bar is 1187th.
