Encore Question of November 27th, 2004.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Bob Seger
  2. George Harrison
  3. Elvis Costello
  4. Elton John
  5. Tom Petty

Tonight I'm playing with three boards, ROCKET and LITBOX and L_LYNX (from the renamed W-League team now that the Toronto Lynx A-League team has acquired the old Toronto Inferno franchise and renamed it the Toronto Lady Lynx) all alone at the bar.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...3500/5000...4th/7...two of my boards co-win round with WOLF_M.
..........LITBOX...4000/5000...1st/7...
..........L LYNX...4000/5000...1st/7...0 for 2 in straight guessing plus a split.
OnBeat...ROCKET...11500/14000...3rd/7...my three win round.
..........LITBOX...12000/14000...1st/7.
..........L_LYNX...12000/14000...1st/7...next best player has 8000.
I score 8 right and 1 wrong. My Billboard's a week out of date but I've written in new album titles from their
web site. I have written some cheat notes that include this year's CMA winners and change an answer
correctly for the new Destiny's Child song. Only the Silvertide debut album title I can't get. (haven't heard
of them yet). Most of the other answers I've seen from walking through the electronics store earlier in
the week.
JukeBox...ROCKET...16663/20000...3rd/9...LITBOX wins.
...........LITBOX...17203/20000...1st/9.
...........L_LYNX...17131/20000...2nd/9...I start to lose points without a third hand.
I got outvoted for one category but it turned out that I easily got it for full points.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...23896/28000...3rd/8...LITBOX wins round.
.........LITBOX...24452/28000...1st/8....no -250 answers this week.
.........T LYNX...23950/28000...2nd/8.

Now the Encore answers come up. I know a lot about these guys so what could this be?

Encore Question:...Who offers some sound advice on "So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star"?

.

.

.

Before the answers come up I'm thinking of Stealers Wheel (oops song was called just "Star"), then the song of this title by The Byrds. When the answers came back I could hear Tom Petty singing it. Now 25 seconds left. I go over to a table of three players eating their dinner. "Better answer 'Tom Petty'" and I see their fingers change their answers. One guy actually looked like a younger version of the singer.

Correct Answer:....5. Tom Petty

[NTN Extra Fact:...This live recording peaked at #9 on the Mainstream Rock Chart in 1985.]

I thought I owned this from his greatest hits album but no it wasn't on it and I can see I don't own his live album nor boxed set greatest hits album. I must have a good memory.

I'm right and win as LITBOX with 36678. A power surge or blip suddenly comes through and blows off the screen and such things as the video machine electronic bowling game. Our network connection doesn't come back so I leave early. Too bad as my score is usually good enough for a Top 10 finish. I though the Encore was easy (the other two players I didn't help got it right) so maybe a Top 20. I'll have to wait until later in the week and look at the ntn.com site. I earn 3000 Players Plus points for meeting this week's 16000 standard. I'm guessing that I'd finish Number 1 in our Hall of Fame out of the six times these new playmakers had ever played this game!

I finish 10th in all North America on the Top 20 board (counted down from the ntn.com site of individual players peeling off duplicate boards at each bar). The bar finished at 35th in North America out of 2022 bars.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
LITBOX	24452 36678	---- 43
L_LYNX	23950 35925	---- 59
ROCKET	23896 35844	---- 64
STONER	12617 13878	----	2226
SQUIRE	10455 15682	----	1940
RED	10133 11476	----	2892
GER 6304 7564	----	4752
ART 3905 4295	----	7115
[ntn.com listed 10160 players].

Eleven correct Encores in a row! I'm pretty sure it would have come to an end last week but a network blackout meant I couldn't play the game.

This is as close to reconstructing last week's Encore question/answer as the Playback message board could come:

(1.) For the final question, NTN asked something about which
songwriter had composed the songs "One For My Baby", and another song
title that I couldn't remember.

CHOICES:
Sammy Cahn
John Philip Sousa
Ira Gershwin
?
Johnny Mercer

ANSWER: Johnny Mercer.
