Encore Question of August 28th, 2004.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing with three boards, ROCKET/LITBOX/T LYNX (named after the Toronto Lynx A-League soccer team) with Richard BERGIE/BERGI2. It was Richard's suggestion we get an extra board each to try to rank the bar.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...1st/7...my three boards co-win round with BERGIE. ..........LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/7. ..........T LYNX...4500/5000...1st/7. OnBeat...ROCKET...10500/14000...1st/7...my three boards co-win round with BERGIE. ..........LITBOX...10500/14000...1st/7. ..........T LYNX...10500/14000...1st/7...six right and three wrong was good for the amount of preparation I'd done in the last few weeks where knowing I wouldn't be coming here the last few weeks, I hadn't been keeping up with music news. JukeBox...ROCKET...15102/20000...1st/7...BERGI2 wins round. ...........LITBOX...15011/20000...2nd/7. ..........T LYNX...14935/20000...3rd/7. We got the categories we wanted. Triviaoke...ROCKET...21752/28000...1st/7...ROCKET wins round. .........LITBOX...21658/28000...2nd/7. .........T LYNX...21299/28000...3rd/7. I was surprised that I could climb to above 20000 because I don't often do well in this round. The first question was a lyric to a Toni Braxton song and I happened to have her first album in my walkman. The song in the question wasn't on this album but it was quite a coincidence. I took only one -250.

Now the Encore answers come up. Group names. British bands. The 1980's (well not all of them). Probably the name of somebody in the group.
Encore Question:...In 1975, this Scotish band made their US tv debut on Howard Cosell's variety show.
.
.
.
Correct Answer:....2. Bay City Rollers
[NTN Extra Fact:...The group had a US Number 1 hit with the song "Saturday Night".]
I thought I might have to pitch out the non-Scotish bands but Richard called out Bay City Rollers first. Yeah that makes up for an Howard Cosell question earlier tonight when he called me off 'lawyer' for 'boxer' as Cosell's pre-broadcast occupation. Once I thought about it I knew the year 1975 gave it away because none of the other groups were that early. Also that year was on my mind because I'd picked up some overstocked music CDs at the Canadian National Exhibition last week and two of the CDs on their 1970s compilations included the song 'Saturday Night'.
I'm right and win as ROCKET with 32628. I finish 20th in all North America. I earn 3000 Players Plus points for meeting this week's 17000 standard. The bar finishes 8th in North America with a 31083 average. [NTN moved us down to 11th out of 1740 bars].
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank ROCKET 21752 32628 20 73 LITBOX 21658 32487 22 76 T LYNX 21299 31949 24 80 BERGIE 19958 29937 31 122 BERGI2 18934 28195 37 179 ART 7308 x 3654 8085 5807 BLUE 6334 x 3167 8340 6151 [NTN.com listed 8600 players].
Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 3,040,500 P+ points and LITBOX at 850,000.
7:30pm...Countdown...ROCKET...3135/15000...5th/6...500+ points...I'm 6462nd in NA...BERGIE wins.

8:30pm...RetroTVCountdown...ROCKET...11015/15000...3rd/5...1000+ points...I'm 16th in Canada.
..............LITBOX...11300/15000...2nd/5...1000+ points...I'm 14th in Canada...bar is 14th in Canada...BERGIE wins and is 6th in Canada.
Only one Simpsons question tonight and Richard knows the answer right away.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...10989/15000...1st/3...1000+ points...I'm 1047th in NA.
...............LITBOX...10983/15000...2nd/3...1000+ points...I'm 1052nd in NA...bar is 1247th...I keep BERGIE board running too.
On the way out I sign off my boards and change their names to CATPOO, DOGPOO, and COWPOO. NTN wouldn't let me spell CATPOO more than a decade ago and that's one of the reason I chose LITBOX. I don't remember owning a cat way back then and I don't own one now but it was a challenge by a friend to come up with what swear words pushed the limits.
A nice welcome back. Next week I should be here before I get up early the next morning to drive to London Ontarion for a soccer tournament. First time I'll have played two weeks in a row since the middle weeks of July.
