Encore Question of June 5th, 2004.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. You Were Mine
  2. There's Your Trouble
  3. I Can Love You Better
  4. Long Time Gone
  5. Landslide

Tonight I'm playing with two boards, ROCKET and LITBOX and keep my fingers synchronized the whole game to finish with an identical score. This is the first weekend the bar has been entirely non-smoking. Business is actually up however for now I'll give the reason that it's the sixth game of the Stanley Cup finals hockey playoffs between Calgary and Tampa Bay and that's brought in quite a crowd of strangers. The owner has also ordered a month ago a pay-per-view boxing match but most of the sets are tuned to the hockey game. I'm playing NTN all alone again.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/2...my two boards win round.
..........LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/2...I go two for two on the guessing I needed to do.
OnBeat...ROCKET...14000/14000...1st/2...my two boards win round.
.............LITBOX...14000/14000...1st/2...I guess another two by luck. I must have read enough in the
past week to make up for the fact I didn't have much time to read anything new about music.
JukeBox...ROCKET...19274/20000...1st/3...my two boards win round.
...........LITBOX...19274/20000...1st/3...I got all the categories I wanted because I had two boards and could outvote
the player who just signed on.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...25473/28000...1st/3...my two boards win round.
.........LITBOX...25473/28000...1st/3...I take one -250 on the last question of the round.

Now the Encore answers come up. First title doesn't click in but I read the rest and realize they all look like Dixie Chicks songs. My score looks pretty good here and should get me a top 10 finish if I can get this. Should I split if I don't know? I haven't done that before. I start thinking about the questions they might ask but don't get the chance as time's up.

Encore Question:...Which Dixie Chicks hit makes references to Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash?

.

.

.

Well I know it's not their Fleetwood Mac cover of 'Landslide' as I know those lyrics quite well. I've heard the Dixie Chicks song mentioning Haggard and Cash in the last year but which one is it. I was thinking it was from a song about a broken marriage and thought that was the song 'Long Time Gone'. I know the chorus of 'Long Time Gone' as its racing through my head. As noone posted last week's Encore question on the Playback message board, I didn't know if the quizmakers had broken out of their '2' and '5' rut. Well I know it wasn't '5' and I'm sure there's no Country stars mentioned in 'There's Your Trouble' so it would be something different. I'm not changing.

Correct Answer:....4. Long Time Gone

[NTN Extra Fact:...The Chicks slammed New Country artists with this twangty song from 'Home'.]

Yeah I'm right but for the wrong reasons of subject matter. Had to check the lyric sheet for this. The song is actually about how a girl left home to get famous as a musician. "We listen to the radio to hear what's cookin'/ But the music ain't got no soul/ Now they sound tired but they don't sound haggard/ they got money but they don't have cash/ they got junior but they don't have Hank...". I caught the reference at the time and must have mentally stored the fact.

I'm right and co-win with LITBOX and ROCKET at 38209. I finish 2nd overall for all North America. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's standard which I missed seeing. The bar finishes 1020th in North America. [ntn.com moved us up to 298th out of 1935 bars with a 15858 average].

This is my highest rank ever. It's not my best score as I finish 3rd and 4th on the bar's Hall of Fame in Southern Ontario's bars unique 'twinning' system which gives LITBOX both spots. Funny my best score came on the Alan Jackson question a few months ago. I'm not an expert on Country music so it's even stranger. I could have won this game as I was only out by a few hundred points. If in Jukebox I'd have gotten to the Beach Boys/Bette Midler/Ramones cover of Bobby Freeman's song "Do You Wanna Dance" instead of sticking to the first Beach Boys song listed "Barbara Ann" which I knew was a cover that would have done it or in Triviaoke with the Janet Jackson lyric "with an Aborigine" after seeing the word 'Australia' instead of sticking with 'birds and honeybees' and didn't take the -250 I would have had it. The Encore question must have been hard enough to knock out the super-teams that play this game.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
LITBOX	25473 38209 2 15
ROCKET	25473 38209 2 16
NODDIN 5749	x 2875	9116	7274
[ntn.com listed 9580 players]

Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 3,017,000 P+ points and LITBOX at 827,000. 8:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...13064/15000...1st/2...1000+ points...I'm 256th in NA.
..............LITBOX...13064/15000...1st/2...1000+ points...I'm 256th in NA...bar is 1578th in NA.
8:30pm...RetroTVCountdown...ROCKET...9743/15000...1st/2...1000+ points...I'm 693rd in Canada...the bar is 1221st in NA

One Simpsons question this week and only one or two 1990s-2000s to knock down my score.
