Encore Question of March 6th, 2004.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing with three boards, ROCKET and LITBOX and TSUPRA (in honour of the CPSL team Toronto Supra). I thought two boards would be enough but I asked for a replacement for an 'out of range' flashing playmaker for the third time tonight and the bartender traded it for two new ones so he expected at least one would work and I wouldn't keep bugging him. I signed them both on to see and just kept them both for this game. Richard BERGIE had arrived before I did tonight and took a second board as JPEG to counter some stranger who was using the nickname TIFF (both names describe computer picture compression formats). Nick IAMINU arrived after TuneUp was almost over. Two young guys were beside us and helped choose the categories in JukeBox and suggest OnBeat answers. Just what we need is some younger input up on the new music.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/12...my three boards co-win round with JPEG. .............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/12 ............TCROAT...5000/5000...1st/12...I guessed 2 for 2 in the 50/50 chances I didn't know. OnBeat...ROCKET...13000/14000...1st/12...my three boards win round. ...........LITBOX...13000/14000...1st/12. ..........TCROAT...13000/14000...1st/12...I swing away from one of the young guy's suggestions as soon as he admits he doesn't know the Puddle Of Mudd singer so I get it right. Thanked him for Usher's Number 1 song. 8 right and 1 wrong is pretty good but most of the others get only 6 because I'm not sure of some of my answers. JukeBox...ROCKET...18401/20000...1st/12...TYMB wins round. ...........LITBOX...18392/20000...2nd/12. ..........TCROAT...18299/20000...3rd/12. The young guy wanted Dr Dre so we voted for that twice. The first question he called out Dre's record company early enought as 'Aftermath' but I saw the word 'Afterlife' and fell for that without reading all the choices. Recovered for about 400 points. The two of them suddenly left after this round after saying goodnight. Since Nick had come in well back after missing most of the TuneUp round and this guy TYMB was in 5th, I passed the board over to Nick to play a second board. The other guy had been on his cellphone so missed a lot of questions and I left his board where it was. Triviaoke...ROCKET...24822/28000...1st/11...ROCKET wins round. .........LITBOX...24795/28000...2nd/11. .........TCROAT...24450/28000...3rd/11. I take one -250 in this round for the song "I Love A Parade". Lyrics to Enya's "Orinocco Flow" are asked and it reminded me my alternative choice would have been to go downtown tonight and watch her sister Moya Brennan (singer/harpist of Clannad) on a solo tour.
Now the Encore answers come up. I don't really think about the choices as they come up but I think I should know all about each group. Lots of player names to dictate into my microrecorder. I actually thought I had a better score than last week. Richard and Nick think it will be The Turtles even before the question comes up. I say while we're waiting that I'd just read on my way out tonight that David Crosby was arrested for possession of drugs and a handgun but it would be too soon for a question about that.
Encore Question:...Gene Clark and Chris Hillman were two of the original members of this 60's band:

.
I know this before the answers came back up. "Were the Byrds a choice? It's '2'", I say overriding their suggestion about the Turtles. "I own their 'Greatest Hits' on LP", I say.
Correct Answer:....2. The Byrds
[NTN Extra Fact:...The other original members were Roger McGuinn, David Crosby and Mike Clarke.]
No wonder the scores seem so high as who would fall for The Rolling Stones? Of course when I got home I realized where could these guys fit in a band named "Crosby Stills & Nash"?
