Encore Question of January 10th, 2004.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing alone with three boxes, ROCKET, LITBOX, and non P+ board SUPRA in honour of the CPSL team Toronto Supra (great that so many of those teams have only five or six letter names). I'm using this board because Nick IAMINU has left half hour earlier and I didn't turn his board in.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...1st/9...my three boards win round. .............LITBOX...4000/5000...1st/9...I go 0 for 2 in guesses. ............SUPRA...4000/5000...1st/9. OnBeat...ROCKET...12000/14000...1st/9...ROCKET wins round...8 right, 1 wrong. ...........LITBOX...11000/14000...2nd/9...7 right and 2 wrong. ...........SUPRA...11000/14000...2nd/9... I was caught changing answers between the three boards between one wrong answer and another and it turned out that I hit an answer for ROCKET that I didn't want but it turned out to be right. A few of tonight's questions turned out be Triviaoke-like because we had to know what the songs were about. Now two more players came in and luckily sat near me because I found my LITBOX name and score being erased. I was able to get another board for the new player before the round started. Gus the bartender gave me a hard time for having three boards. Hah! When he gives out the other 12 boards, I'll give my extras back. JukeBox...ROCKET...17949/20000...1st/11...IMTALL wins round. Hey it's that new guy! ...........LITBOX...16820/20000...2nd/11. ...........SUPRA...16764/20000...3rd/11. I have to watch out that SUPRA is to answer last and stop cutting off LITBOX from getting more points. This time the categories were arranged by decades so there was a good idea of what the era's the questions would fit into. I had a great round. Triviaoke...ROCKET...24011/28000...1st/8...ROCKET wins round. .........LITBOX...22839/28000...2nd/8. .........SUPRA...22521/28000...3rd/8...I take only one -250 in this round but most I get for near max points so I was pleased.
Now the Encore answers come up. I should be able to get this as I start checking off titles with their artists.
Encore Question:...David Bowie recorded this avant garde album after moving to Berlin to kick cocaine:
.
.
.
I jump on the answer right away. I thought I'd ask the new players if they needed any help. The woman says the answer is '4'. Yikes I hadn't even noticed that (and thank her) but argue out because I say it's an album title. "Oh my God" she said and changed her answer to my suggestion '1'. The others I've knocked out as 2=Steely Dan, 3=Jethro Tull and 5=Creedance Clearwater Revival. Would David Bowie have had enough money to buy cocaine when he first got started in his Space Oddity days? No, don't think of changing and be confident!
Correct Answer:....1. Low
[NTN Extra Fact:...It was the first of three albums made in Berlin with producer Brian Eno.]
I'm right and win as ROCKET at 36017. I'm shown as finishing 18th on the Network Top 20 for all North America. Lucky for having dyslexia in the OnBeat round. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 19000 standard. My board displaces two of my scores on the bar's Hall of Fame for Playback as I fit into 7th and 8th place on the Top 10 for the last 12 months. (All Hall Of Fame scores are 'twinned' as are the other two bars I visited in Southern Ontario). The bar finishes 18th in North America with a 27500 average. Thanks that those new players came in to help out. I couldn't figure out who the woman was playing as. Suddenly 11 boards showed up in the score but three people had left. I saw by the ntn.site that those other three players didn't count. [ntn.com listed 1579 bars].
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank ROCKET 24011 36017 18 51 18th on the Network Top 20 LITBOX 22839 34259 154 76 SUPRA 22521 33781 291 90 LEDZEP 16026 x 9616 7236 2312 WAYNE 14249 x 11399 6724 1571 MOOGOO 14182 x 9927 7147 2158 IMTALL 11365 17047 5100 596 PJAM 8477 x 4239 7988 5533 [ntn.com listed 7933 players]

"Hey you're a good player", I said to the guy playing the Yellow Plus sign IMTALL as I put my coat on and left. He nodded in agreement and the woman said "Goodnight". Now I just walked home in the "Low" temperature feeling too warm and pumped to wait for the subway. Great way to start the year.
