Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Ropin' The Wind
  2. Born In The USA
  3. Like A Virgin
  4. Brothers In Arms
  5. We Are The World

Tonight I'm playing alone with my two boxes, ROCKET and LITBOX moving up to the bar so I could see easier. I cleared out the other players by ringing up 14000/14000 in the RetroTV Countdown game just before this but that was only because the questions were exactly the same 15 from last week's game. Bill MADDOG got here just in time to join in and Dougie XL started midway through TuneUp. Bill was within shouting distance but Dougie had to read my hand signals.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...1st/4...ROCKET, LITBOX and MADDOG win round.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/4...two guesses and one of them right.
OnBeat...ROCKET...11500/14000...1st/6...my two boards win round.
...........LITBOX...11500/14000...1st/6...7 right and 2 wrong...A stranger had blurted out two wrong
answers this round which I ignored but when he offered up the American Idol answer, I took it
and was right (never watched the show nor Canadian Idol either).
JukeBox...ROCKET...17009/20000...1st/4...my two boards win round.
...........LITBOX...17009/20000...1st/4...each question offered a seasonal holiday vs non-seasonal category.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...23331/28000...1st/4...my two boards win round.
.........LITBOX...23331/28000...1st/4...I don't take any -250s but change to save a few low scores. Again
about half the songs were about Christmas.

Now the Encore answers come up. Well it won't be about Christmas. Quite a variety of artists here, I know I own them all on cassette tape. I'm thinking this will be a question about the biggest selling album in one particular year.

Encore Question:...These albums were all hits in the mid 1980's except:

.

.

.

I should be able to get this. Mid 1980's? Out go '2' and '3' which I remember from 1984. The big charity effort from 1986 [actually 1985]. Hey Garth Brooks was from the 1990s even though in his short career he's retired already. I'm thinking that he's a star in the 1990s and even though this was his 3rd album [actually his 2nd], this would be out in 1989 [actually 1991]. Great reasoning eh? I still have more than twenty seconds so make sure that Bill and Dougie have the answer.

Correct Answer:....1. Ropin' The Wind

[NTN Extra Fact:...This Garth Brooks effort first hit the charts in 1991.]

I'm right and win with both boards at 34997. That I realize is a good score and it earns me 9th and 10th place in the bar's Hall of Fame displacing one of my other twin scores. I finish 25th in North America. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 17000 standard. The bar finishes 638th with only four players. [ntn.com moves us up to 92nd of 1766 bars].

Not quite good enough to make the Top 20 Network Ranking but I've realized it's getting the Encore right which reallly makes my week.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
ROCKET	23331 34997 25 73
LITBOX	23331 34997 25 74
MADDOG	18095 27143	1604 587
XL	12929 19393	4001	1847
(ntn.com lists 7863 players)

Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 2,797,500 and LITBOX at 610,500 P+ points.
7:30pm...Countdown...ROCKET...2406/15000...5th/6...500+ points...I'm 7948th in North America...ANGELA wins.
....................LITBOX...1208/15000...6th/6...500+ points...I'm 8974th in NA...bar is 1140th...I'm signed on for the last few questions for ROCKET and even less for LITBOX. 8:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...8352/15000...2nd/5...1000+ points...I'm 3716th in NA.
..........LITBOX...8270/15000...3rd/5...1000+ points...I'm 3777th in NA...bar is 911th in NA...KIRK wins.
8:30pm...RetroTVCountdown...ROCKET...14251/15000...1st/2...1000+ points...I'm 4th on the Network Top 20 in Canada...bar is 737th.
..............LITBOX...14251/15000...1st/2...1000+ points...I'm 4th overall in Canada.
They replay last week's game and was surprised that I could remember the first 14 questions right off to score 14000. Now if they use this for the next nine weeks everyone can have a perfect game if they answer 2,5,1,1,2/3,4,2,1,3/4,4,5,3,5. Question 1 is the name of the cinema in Dawson's Creek. 2. The Rialto (and away you go). I drove the other players from the bar when I racked up such a high score which made us suffer for the Playback game.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...11559/15000...1st/4...1000+ points...I'm 1644th in NA...the bar is 1277th.
...............LITBOX...11559/15000...1st/4...1000+ points...I'm 1644th in NA.
