Encore Question of December 13th, 2003.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing alone with my two boxes, ROCKET and LITBOX moving up to the bar so I could see easier. A guy beside me played a board WAYNE but he left for the washroom, took a phonecall, met a friend and left and by the reaction of the bartender, left without paying during the Triviaoke round. I ran his board whenever I saw him absent or not paying attention. I gave a few signals to Dougie D who stayed at his table when I moved up.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/6...my two win round. .............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/6...maybe three semi-guesses that went the right way. OnBeat...ROCKET...14000/14000...1st/6...my two win round. ...........LITBOX...14000/14000...1st/6...9 right and 0 wrong...maybe another three semi-guesses. I have very rarely gone 9 and 0 even with help so feel good soloing. JukeBox...ROCKET...18524/20000...2nd/4...WAYNE wins round. ...........LITBOX...18533/20000...1st/4...MOEBAD and SULLY leave when they fall well behind. Triviaoke...ROCKET...23157/28000...2nd/5...LITBOX wins round. .........LITBOX...23176/28000...1st/5...I take two -250s and at least one for around +200.
Now the Encore answers come up. Big variety here but it should be 1970s.
Encore Question:...According to this artist's 1971 hit it's "High Time We Went".

Ahh 1971, the year before I got my own radio and start collecting CHUM (radio) charts. I don't know this but think it's either Carly Simon and Joe Cocker. I put in '1' on all three boards that I now control. I had Carly Simon on my mind but keep saying it's probably Joe Cocker. Mick Jagger wasn't making solo singles back then. I know enough about Rod Stewart to know it wasn't him and too early for Linda Ronstadt. Yep 50-50 chance here. Why don't I change? I got lucky earlier earlier in the evening by not changing an answer and turned out to be right.
Correct Answer:....5. Joe Cocker
[NTN Extra Fact:...It was released as a Double A side with "Black Eyed Blues".]
I'm wrong but still win as LITBOX with 11588. I finish 6372nd in North America. I earn 1500+ Players Plus points for not meeting this week's standard whatever it was. The bar finishes 1932nd in North America with a 8721 average. [NTN.com site boosted us to 632nd of 2002 bars].
I feel really stupid for falling for the NTN trick. They asked a question in the TuneUp round about Anita Baker covering a Carly Simon song and so that's why I had her on my mind. Also I didn't want to have '1' uncovered after so many times using it in the last few months. I saw that even if I got the Encore right, I wouldn't have placed in the Top 20 on the Network as it took a 35XXX minimum.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank LITBOX 23176 x 11588 6372 2523 ROCKET 23157 x 11579 6375 2528 WAYNE 19945 x 9973 6878 2991 D 18404 x 9202 7119 3247 WINO A 842 1265 9604 7975 [NTN.com listed 9070 players]
Other games:...I'm start the evening with ROCKET at 2,787,000 and LITBOX at 600,500 P+ points.
7:30pm...Countdown...ROCKET...0/15000...5th/5...500+ points...I'm 9999th in North America...I just get signed on my first board and earn 500+ points.
8:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...9296/15000...4th/6...1000+ points...I earn 1000+ points...I'm 3047th in NA.
..........LITBOX...8680/15000...3rd/6...1000+ points...I'm 3032nd in NA...bar is 494th in NA...SULLY wins.
8:30pm...RetroTVCountdown...ROCKET...10239/15000...3rd/6...1000+ points...I'm 824th in NA...bar is 6th in Canada with a 10259 average.
..............LITBOX...10249/15000...2nd/11...1000+ points...I'm 815th in Canada...MOEBAD wins.
I'm in trouble now that the questions move to include 1990s television shows as that's outside my knowledge.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...6514/15000...3rd/4...500+ points...I'm 5374th in NA...the bar is 1494th...D wins.
...............LITBOX...6510/15000...4th/4...500+ points...I'm 5377th in NA...I couldn't make the 7000 standard to earn 1000+ points...the Americans got easy RetroTV questions while we got authors, obscure foods, and mythology...I hadn't done this bad since a Wipeout game about Auto Racing or the weekend games after '911'. (Next day I wake up to hear the US army has captured Saddam Hussein alive).
Well this isn't my night so no use hanging around here and I left early wishing Dougie a Merry Christmas on the way out.
