Encore Question of October 18th, 2003.
Played at the Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing Playback with my two boards and Doug DOUG and Jeremy (?) JEREMY. I was giving out most of the answers but JEREMY knew one of the OnBeat questions to help.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...2nd/7...Doug K wins round before changing his board name. I'm tied for 2nd with JEREMY. ...........LITBOX...4000/5000...2nd/7...I only went one for three in questions I needed to get although the rest I knew before the answers came up. OnBeat...ROCKET...12000/14000...1st/7...my two co-win round with JEREMY. ..........LITBOX...12000/14000...1st/7. 8 right and 1 wrong with JEREMY's help on hometown BareNaked Ladies question that I didn't hear in the news. JukeBox...ROCKET...17803/20000...2nd/7...LITBOX wins round. ...........LITBOX...17812/20000...1st/7. Triviaoke...ROCKET...23672/28000...2nd/7...FREEKS win round. ...........LITBOX...23687/28000...1st/7...I took one -250 on the Les Miz question but otherwise did pretty good.
Now the Encore answers come up. I think I should get this but it should be harder than it looks.
Encore Question:...Which hard rock band was originally known as Mammoth?
.
.
.
I don't know this. Any of these could be creditable choices. I think Def Leppard might have changed their name to be more Led Zeppelinesque than a more mainstream name to get more well known when starting out. There's been commercials during the hockey game for a Shania Twain special on the CBC so maybe her spouse Mutt Lange as producer of Def Leppard's biggest albums was on my mind.
Correct Answer:....1. Van Halen
[NTN Extra Fact:...They changed their name to Van Halen in 1974.]
I think I've read that before but now I can't think of where because after I got home I found it wasn't in my music book. I only thought of Van Halen in a split second when I thought of Sammy Hagar's former band Montrose but this wasn't it.
I'm wrong but hold my position and win the game as LITBOX with only 11843 points. I finish 6682 in North America. I earn only 1500+ Players Plus points for not meeting this week's standard of 20000. The bar finishes 1637th in North America. [ntn.com moved us up to 314th of 1761 bars].
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank LITBOX 23687 x 11843 6682 1384 ROCKET 23672 x 11836 6684 1387 JEREMY 18898 x 9449 7353 2183 DOUG 18727 x 9363 7377 2237 FREEKS 17567 x 8783 7539 2550 C FARF 12624 x 6312 8231 4222 GEO 1282 x 641 9820 7911 ntn.com listed 8373 players.
Other games:...I start the evening with 2,742,500 for ROCKET and 567,000 for LITBOX.
7:30pm...Countdown...ROCKET...822/15000...3rd/5...500+ points...I'm 9348th in NA...bar is 2020th...JEREMY wins...I'm here in time for the last two questions.

9:00pm...Playback (see above).
My friends left after the Playback game. I didn't stay until 11pm for the first time in years. Van Halen's first album didn't come out until 1978. I just didn't want to play ntn anymore tonight. More fun to walk home in the rain.
