Encore Question of October 4th, 2003.
Played at Oarhouse Sports Bar in London Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Trey Anastasio
  2. Ry Cooder
  3. Stevie Ray Vaughan
  4. BB King
  5. Wayne Newton

Tonight I'm playing Playback with just one board while I'm at a soccer tournament in London Ontario. One of the teams pulled out of the tournament and I found before I left that I'd have Saturday night free. I looked up on the ntnc.com site what bars in London had NTN. The Oarhouse Sports Bar was one of four listed and looked closest to the motel I where I was going to stay and I'd seen them show up in the rankings. OK I marked this on my map and drove there after the semi-final soccer game. Driving kept me to just having a diet Coke. I was here in time for the 8:30pm RetroTV Countdown. A guy beat me by 3000 points so I thought this was a pretty good bar.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...5000/5000...1st/6...I co-win round with AZZURI. One guy gets a second board and all players are at the same
section of the bar.
OnBeat...14000/14000...1st/6...I win this round. I was surprized as I didn't expect to be playing this week so
I didn't read any on-line entertainment news. I offer up a few answers. I guess about two that I wasn't sure of but
don't blurt out my choices.
JukeBox...19369/20000...1st/6...I win round and agreed with the choices.
Triviaoke...24638/28000...1st/6...GUAVA wins round.
I take two -250 scores to stop my score reaching into the stratosphere. I had listened to the Fastball CD from 1998
just a week ago so I just happened in the back of my mind to remember that lyric.

Now the Encore answers come up. What a contrast of styles.

Encore Question:...This guitarist rocked the music world in 1983 with his debut album "Texas Flood".

Let me think. Debut in 1983? Wayne Newton started at least twenty years earlier and BB King maybe even longer. I was reading about Trey Anatasio earlier this week as I thought it was while reading about the Jane's Addiction reunion [wrong it was my new Dave Matthews album which has the guitarist for Phish guesting on the bonus CD]. Now that leaves only two choices. At The Frog & Firkin last week, Nick was talking about the death of Stevie Ray Vaughan. "I think it's 3 or it could be 2?" I say but I think only the closest guy can hear me. I know Vaughan came from Texas and my mind was humming "Couldn't Stand The Weather". Texas Storm and that would be about the time he got started. I know what I'll answer!

Correct Answer:....3. Stevie Ray Vaughan

[NTN Extra Fact:...Vaughan died in a helicopter crash after a 1990 concert in Wisconsin.]

I win but not everyone here got the answer. I should have been more forceful but I didn't want to look like an idiot for being wrong. I finish with 36957 points. I finish 10th on the Network Top 20 in all North America. I earn 3000+ points for meeting this week's standard of 18000. The bar finishes 471st although ntn.com website moved us up to 49th of 1835 bars. The website also lists me as 47th overall. I finish 1st and 2nd on this bar's Hall Of Fame and it looks likely that score will hold for the next 12 months.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	ntn.com rank
ROCKET	24638 36957 10 47 I finish 10th on the Network Top 20 in all North America.
STEVE	21485	x	10743	6902	3787
IGGY	19583 29375	1529 247
AZZURI	18905 28357	1822 296
ANDREW	17663	x 8831	7453	4260
GUAVA	14145 21217	3881	1086
(ntn.com listed 8550 players).

Other games:...I'm a visitor tonight and it's been so long since I've done that I'm not sure if I remember the bar's location code.
8:30pm...RetroTV Countdown...11159/15000...4th/7...1000+ points...I'm 949th in NA...bar is 6th in Canada with an 11756 average...IGGY wins with 14001 and if 4th on the Network.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).

I've got a busy day tomorrow and no point to staying. The soccer season ends this weekend so I should be more of a regular at my local bar for the next seven months.

Hey now typing this up at home don't I remember that the team I saw win the semi-final soccer game was the Vaughan Sun Devils. Ooh. An omen? (Vaughan is a suburb just north of Metro Toronto).
