Encore Question of May 17th, 2003.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing two boards with Sean METLCA/TRUJLO and Rob COSMO. I'm glad there here as I haven't had the time to keep up with music news that's so critical in the OnBeat round and as the summer goes on it should just get worse.
Here's how my game had gone so far: TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...2nd/8...COSMO wins round with 4500. .......LITBOX...4000/5000...2nd/8...my two boards tie with METLCA and TRUJLO. OnBeat...ROCKET...10000/14000...2nd/8...our five boards all finish 6 right, 3 wrong. .......LITBOX...10000/14000...2nd/9...doesn't look good for me making my 20000 goal before Encore. JukeBox...ROCKET...15399/20000...5th/8...METLCA wins round. .......LITBOX...15414/20000...4th/9...I thought this round was easy with mostly song titles of 'Who', 'What', 'Where', 'When' or 'How'. Triviaoke...ROCKET...20815/28000...5th/8...METLCA wins round and takes lead. .......LITBOX...20824/28000...my friends help me make 20000 as I only took about one -250.
The answers come up and we feel that we should know this. Songs from the 1980s. I mentally put an artist name to each song before the answers disappear and the betting round begins. OK let's go...
Encore Question:...Which 80's hit was originally a recording by Hall & Oates?
.
.
Err was it 'One On One' I saw up there? No don't panic just wait for the answers to be displayed again. Ok there they are and Rob and I blurt out the right answer at the same time. I'm positive about it and then give my reasoning.
Correct Answer:...5. Everytime You Go Away
[NTN Extra Fact:...This sentimental song, later a #1 hit for Paul Young, is found on "Voices".]
Some comments between us about 'Mr Cover' were made and I could add "Wherever I Lay My Hat" was a Marvin Gaye song. I'd read comments in a book years ago that Hall & Oates almost released this as a single but they'd already had four from that album which I never owned. Oh now I realize another reason for it being engraved with me is it was on their 'Live From The Apollo' which I did buy on cassette tape when it came out.
I'm right and hold in 4th and 5th place with LITBOX at 31236 and ROCKET at 31223. I finish 339th and 343rd in North America. The bar finishes 7th in North America with a 32025 average. I earn 3000+ points for meeting this weeks 16000 Players Points standard. METLCA wins and is 7th on the Network 20 board.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank METLCA 22584 33876 7 47 COSMO 21421 32131 62 89 TRUJLO 21106 31659 208 106 LITBOX 20824 31236 339 121 ROCKET 20815 31223 343 122 COSMOS 10631 15947 5068 2051 IAMINU 4079 x 2039 9369 8211 TUSCON 678 x 339 9895 9831 10146 players
ntn.com later knocks the bar down to 9th of 2098th.
Other games:...I start the evening with ROCKET at 2,570,500+ and LITBOX at 412,000+

My scores were inflated by about 2000 to 3000 points by having three minds at work. I won't be here next week as it's the opening game of the CPSL season and I therefore I should be watching a soccer game in Oshawa during Playback.
