Encore Question of March 8th, 2003.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm back to playing at The Frog & Firkin and looking forward to it because Rob COSMO and Sean METLCA/VOIVOD will be here. We're doing very well this game working as a team working with five boards. (Voivod is a heavy metal band from Montreal that recently added Metallica's former member Jason Newsted as bassist), according to Sean. He's a red star player with this handle so it's not like he's just heard of them last week).
Here's how my game had gone so far: TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/10...my two boards co-win round with METLCA/VOIVOD and COSMO. ............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/10. OnBeat...ROCKET...13000/14000...1st/7...my two boards win round. ............LITBOX...13000/14000...1st/7...8 right, 1 wrong with help from Rob and Sean and some straight out lucky guessing. JukeBox...ROCKET...18712/20000...1st/7...ROCKET wins round. .............LITBOX...18709/20000...2nd/7. Triviaoke...ROCKET...24933/28000...2nd/7...LITBOX wins round. ............LITBOX...25001/28000...1st/7...only took one -250 for this round but saved from more errors from Rob and Sean.
Hey we're having a great game with our table all above 21000. I must have 3000 more points than if I was playing alone. The answers come up and I can tell the list is all Neil Diamond songs. I tell Sean that years ago the question would have asked "What song is not by Neil Diamond?" and I'd have guessed before the question came up but the Encore's have toughened up over the years. This one could be about Grammy winners, or 'which album?' or 'which year?' questions. I think I should no this...
Encore Question:...Chris Isaak recorded a twangy rockabilly version of this Neil Diamond song:
.
.
Sean said that it couldn't be 'America' before the answers even come back. Sean and Rob agree on 'Solitary Man' because they can imagine Isaak singing this 'twangy' but it could be 3, 4, or 5. I probably would have picked 'Cracklin' Rosie' if I'd been on my own but I can imagine their choice being the best although the whole time I'm thinking more through Dwight Yoakum's voice.
Correct Answer:...4 Solitary Man
[NTN Extra Fact:...The song appeared on Isaak's 1993 album "San Francisco Days".]
I'm right and win the game as LITBOX with 37501. I earn 3000 Players Plus points for both boards by reaching this week's 18000 standard. Could anything spoil this game? Well the rankings are not displayed for bars, individual network Top 20 nor overall rankings. This may mean that we don't show up on the NTN.com site on Monday neither. I placed 5th and 6th on the bar's Playback Hall Of Fame board. Rob and Sean will be out every second week so next week I'll see who I can get in the smoking section.
NTN.com site places our bar 3rd with a 35345 average.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final NTN top 2000 LITBOX 25001 37501 46 (6th on the Network Top 20) ROCKET 24933 39399 49 METLCA 23068 34602 75 VOIVOD 22884 34326 79 COSMO 21931 32897 110 JSBACH 12281 x 6141 NUGGET 9066 x 4533
