Encore Question of March 1st, 2003.
Played at The Bull & Firkin in Toronto Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Tapestry
  2. Hotel California
  3. The Last Waltz
  4. LA Woman
  5. Rumours

Tonight I'm playing at The Bull & Firkin after a subway ride to midtown Toronto. Rob and Sean weren't going to the Frog & Firkin tonight so I wanted to be at a place with some good players because I need help with the OnBeat round. The players who I thought would be here weren't. I didn't e-mail them but I thought if unless there was pay-per-view boxing when this bar switches every monitor to boxing, it was understood they were always here. I was working two boards which is all that I'm comfortable with and playing alone. I was going to help the couple at the table behind me during OnBeat but they'd been looking at movie listings and disappeared after TuneUp.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4000/5000...1st/6...I co-win round with BADBUB, BABBA, and SAM.
..........LITBOX...4000/5000...1st/6.
Who wants my help anyway? With me getting two early questions wrong, I was in last place.
I was 50% in the four guesses I had to come up with.
OnBeat...ROCKET...10000/14000...1st/4...I co-win round with ROCKET.
..........LITBOX...10000/14000...1st/4.
Six right and three wrong. Oh wow, three Canadian artist questions keep me in the game. K-OS,
Kathleen Edwards and Michael Buble aren't household words even in Canada yet. Two
of them I didn't know but could identify the other choices as non-Canadian. Also the name of
Johnny Marr's backing band 'The Healers' after seeing them at an autograph session a few
weeks ago. Noone talking to them and me not realizing one of them was Zak Starkey, son of one
of the Beatles. Still I doubted I could reach 20000 before the Encore round.
JukeBox...ROCKET...14444/20000...2nd/5...LITBOX wins round.
..........LITBOX...14447/20000...1st/5.
I got outvoted for the second Van Halen question and stumbled on the alternative.
Lorne Greene with the song 'Ringo' in the 1960s category offers another Canadian answer.
Triviaoke...22250/28000...1st/5...ROCKET wins round.
..........LITBOX...22238/28000...2nd/5.
Pulled up very well in this round with no -250s. One huge guess about a song from 'Oklahoma'
made up for a clunker in OnBeat. I took note of another Canadian answer: The Four Lads song
"Moments To Remember". Actual some others I got from the answer being the song title. And
another Beach Boys lyric, bring 'em on!

The answers come up and this could be easy or trouble. All albums from the 1970s. Now it was 'Rumours' that was the top selling album of the 1970s but what if they asked about a Grammy winner?

Encore Question:...Which of these is a triple album?

.

.

What? I cycle through in my mind before the answers come back up. I have to wait until the answers are shown again. Ok now I know. Answer in! Now I go over to the two other players I saw with a board and say something like: "I'd advise you to answer '3', I own the others, I probably couldn't afford the 'The Last Waltz'". I probably said something even lamer. I didn't know if they would have gotten it anyway but I'd let them answer before I offered my reasoning.

Correct Answer:...3. The Last Waltz

[NTN Extra Fact:...This farewell concert for The Band was taped at San Francisco's famed Winter Ballroom.]

Now it hits me, sure another Canadian answer! That's six vs three for Van Halen in TuneUp and JukeBox.

I'm right and win with ROCKET 33375 and LITBOX 33357. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 19000 standard. I finish 16th on the Network Top 20 in all North America. The bar is 507th.

It was an important game for me. I haven't played Playback alone for a few years as I've always got an answer or two from another player. Still I didn't enjoy my time here (no blame on the friendly staff) and I'd rather play at the Frog & Firkin with the smokers on the odd/even weeks when Rob and Sean aren't there.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	NTN Top 2000
ROCKET	22250 33375 16 66
LITBOX	22238 33357 17 67
BUBBA	18050 27075	1705 330
SAM	10859 16289	5009
LIBBY 3390 5085	8442
