Encore Question of February 15th, 2003.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. White Christmas
  2. Ol' Man River
  3. Satin Doll
  4. I Got Rythm
  5. Honeysuckle Rose

Tonight as I was playing Playback I noticed the hard way that my ROCKET board wasn't recording my answers when I saw I had a '0' on a TuneUp question so I had to toggle from a wrong answer to the right one to see it record and was losing points on the one board once the timed part of the game started in JukeBox. I was playing with Sean METLCA/LIZZY and Rob COSMO.

Here's how my game had gone so far:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...2nd/9 in six way tie.
..........LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/9...I win this round. Maybe one guess that I was lucky on.
OnBeat...ROCKET...13500/14000...2nd/9...my two boards win this round.
..........LITBOX...14000/14000...1st/9...nine right! wow although I must have guessed two,
seemed to be quite a few '1's as the correct answer.
JukeBox...ROCKET...16538/20000...2nd/9...LITBOX wins round.
..........LITBOX...18017/20000...1st/9...most of the categories were Valentine topics or their
opposites...tough going that we picked 'Loneliness' and 'Hate' twice each.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...21936/28000...2nd/9...TIM wins round.
...........LITBOX...23611/28000...1st/9...I take a -250 and a +004 on the last two questions
to slow down my momentum. Thanks to Rob and Sean or that would have been another
-250.

The answers come up. Hey they spelled 'Rhythm' wrong or is that the actual song title? [Nope].

Encore Question:...Which famous song was written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II?

.

.

Well before the answers come back, I can rule out "White Christmas" because I know that was written by Irving Berlin. Rob suggests "Ol' Man River" and Sean agrees. Yeah! I saw the play maybe four years ago about four blocks north of here in probably the only play I've seen as an adult. The song's from 'Showboat' with a guy from the group The Fifth Dimension singing that song (not in the original group). I'd like to have mentally pictured the program before I'd be sure but I wasn't even sure the other three were even used in Broadway plays. I think a Jerome Kern answer was '2' a few years ago.

Correct Answer:...2. Ol' Man River

[NTN Extra Fact:...The song is one of several memorable one's from Showboat.]

I'm right and win the game as LITBOX with 35417. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 18000 point standard. I finish 3rd on the Network Top 20 for all North America. The bar is 5th in North America with a 32132 average.

Now I walk home in 2oF (-17oC) weather with a wind chill making it colder. Three kilometres each way. I should have taken the subway the two stops--not for the cold but for my sore ribs. I was in a car accident on Thursday night. I was tired, running late and ready to drive to the swimming pool and had scraped the snow of my windshield. Ready to back out of my driveway, I saw that I hadn't done a good enough job and stepped out of the car to have another go but hadn't put the car back in Park. With the door open and I'd already stepped out, the car started backing up on its own. It was momentarily held back by the door crunching into some rocks we had in a garden wall but soon it was free of them and I was pushing on the car to hold it steady but I couldn't hold on and fell to my knees off to one side. Now the car reversed down the driveway and rolled out into the street fortunately with no cars coming by nor nothing parked across the street. The car rolled over the neighbour's curb but that was enough with the incline and the snow that it stopped the car and I could rush over and turn off the engine.

The car drives alright but needs some body work unless I don't want the driver-side door fully open. I had to phone in sick for work the next day at work because my ribs were hurting. Sunday morning was even worse with this extra walking Estimates from friends and family have me putting up with between three weeks and a month of pain. I wasn't in the mood to write up the answers to the RetroTV game on the back of my business card and give them out before the game. Maybe next week!
