Encore Question of February 8th, 2003.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Beck
  2. Eminem
  3. Counting Crows
  4. Rage Against The Machine
  5. Tupac Shakur

Worried that I was going to be alone tonight because I didn't get any e-mails but I walked to the Frog & Firkin anyway and found that almost everyone I know was here at some time tonight. Lucky also that there was supposedly a huge delay on the subway line anyway so getting to midtown would have been trouble. I was playing with Rob COSMO and Sean METLCA/CAPER. Just before the Playback game started, a group at the next booth left after their meal and I grabbed a second board and got LITBOX signed on.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/11...my two boards co-win with METLCA, CAPER, and FREEKS.
..........LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/11.
OnBeat...ROCKET...12000/14000...1st/11...my two boards co-win with METLCA and CAPER.
........LITBOX...12000/14000...1st/11...7 right, 2 wrong...3 guesses but only got one right.
JukeBox...ROCKET...17971/20000...2nd/10...LITBOX wins round.
........LITBOX...17977/20000...1st/10...I handle the Beach Boys questions and Sean and Rob
handle the Garth Brooks questions although we are outvoted on the second Garth question
for Lionel Richie!
Triviaoke...ROCKET...24644/28000...2nd/10...COSMO wins round.
...........LITBOX...24673/28000...1st/10...only took one -250 tonight.

The categories come up and I'm thinking this may be something about an album title or some kind of award. Well safety in numbers...

Encore Question:...Who once protested a pro-censorship group by standing silent on stage for 25 minutes?

.

.

I don't know this right off. "Gotta be 1" said Sean. "Do you think Beck would do that?" I ask. "Yeah, he's a freak...I don't know". "Well Rage Against The Machine does that kind of stuff" I say. "Change it, c'mon" he says but I leave it on '1' and Rob switches to '5'. I was thinking of splitting and on my own without hearing Sean's idea would have gone with '4' the more I thought about it.

Correct Answer:...4. Rage Against The Machine

[NTN Extra Fact:...Two wore tape over their mouth and nothing else.]

I'm wrong but only fall to 2nd and 3rd place. I finish 6379th and 6380th on my two boards. I only earn 1500+ Players Plus points for missing this week's 20000 standard. The bar is 1379th in North America...Steve JSBACH wins.

Steve came over and explained why he guessed that way. He admits that he's a Classic music fan but remembers seeing the RATM album with the flaming man on the cover. He thought they were into protests. Hey. Good logic! Our table thought Eminem's audience wouldn't have the patience for silence before they'd start throwing things.

Nice run for me of eleven correct Encores in a row (although I wasn't here to get the Johnny Cash question wrong) but now I have to start again.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank	NTN Top 2000 rankings
LITBOX	24673	x	12337	6379
ROCKET	24664	x	12332	6380
METLCA	24109	x	12055	6461
CAPER	24045	x	12023	6471
COSMO	24004	x	12002
FREEKS	16041	x 8021
BERGIE	12505	x 6253
JSBACH	11968 17952	4730	1623
SPQQKY	11845	x 5923
IAMINU 7992	x 3996 bar ranking was upgraded to 388th
					with a 13339 average.

Other games:...I start the evening with 2,448,000 P+ points for ROCKET and 328,000 for LITBOX.
8:00pm...Countdown...13734/15000...7th/14...1000+ points...I'm 138th in NA...bar is 4th in North America with a 14511 average...CRANKY wins and is 14th in NA with 14987. Sean and Rob say these are almost all repeat questions and they've noticed this in the last few nights.
8:30pm...RetroTVCountdown...15000/15000...1st/14...1009+ points...I'm 21st in North America overall even with four of us having a perfect game with METLCA, CAPER, and COSMO...probably because 20 people were listed on the Network Top 20...bar is 5th in North America with a 14894 average...this is now the eighth time I've played this game with the last seven Saturday's and New Year's Eve included...looks like at last the Canadian bars are catching on.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
10:00pm...Countdown...ROCKET...12105/15000...1st/11...1000+ points...I'm 1091st in NA...bar is 248th.
...........LITBOX...11827/15000...2nd/11...1000+ points...I'm 1296th in NA.
10:30pm...Countdown...ROCKET...12756/15000...2nd/11...1000+ points...I'm 16th in NA...bar is in a tie for 5th in North America with a 12161 average.
..........LITBOX...12774/15000...1000+ points...I'm 14th in NA on the Network Top 20.

Sean suggested that I write down the answers to that perfect game. I kept track and gave a copy to Richard who tripped up on the singing Lennon sisters. He hasn't played the game as often. Now I've decided to let everyone know. Well readers of my pages anyway.

Ok it's Retroactive TV Countdown and if you see the first question as something about "This anchor left Wide World Of Sports to join Entertainment tonight" then the answer is 2. Julie Moran.
That makes the game like this:...2-4-1-3-4...break...5-1-1-3-1...break...1-4-2-5-5.
Maybe this is all a Penn & Teller trick...Impress your date!
