Encore Question of January 11th, 2003.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. KD Lang
  2. Suzanne Vega
  3. Sarah McLachlan
  4. Enya
  5. Tori Amos

Tonight I'm playing alone and only controlling two boards. I don't make an effort to recruit anybody. Dougie has gone home and the lifeguard from the swimming pool I go to has one arm bandaged up and is keeping his other busy with his drink and cigarettes. Next week I'll have to e-mail friends ahead of time to confirm or I'll go somewhere else.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp...ROCKET...3500/5000...1st/3...my two boards win...not much luck guessing.
...........LITBOX...3500/5000...1st/3.
OnBeat...ROCKET...10500/14000...1st/3...my two boards win. 7 right and 2 wrong wasn't bad.
...........LITBOX...10500/14000...1st/3.
JukeBox...ROCKET...15250/20000...1st/2...down to just my boards.
............LITBOX...15250/20000...1st/2...well at least I can pick the subjects.
I get caught writing down the questions for the internet Playback message board members
and don't see my answer thrown out. I take -250 instead maybe +200.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...19362/28000...1st/4...ROCKET wins round.
..............LITBOX...19347/28000...2nd/4.
I made my second mistake in this game by picking a throwaway answer to the Bing Crosby song
expecting I'd been burned months ago on one of his songs with a joke lyric. Couldn't make my
20000 point standard.

So the answers come up and I think I know a lot about two of the artists. No I hadn't listened to any of the five this week, nor hummed their tunes, nor found pictures of them in my Zip drive. OK Enya I did see on television on a repeat broadcast of the World Music Awards in Monaco. Strange that earlier in the day I had played Amy Grant's "Heart In Motion" and Elvis Presley's "30 #1 Hits" CDs and those gave me two of the Triviaoke songs this week!

Encore Question:...Famous for her haunting vocals, she first reached the US Album chart with "Solace".

.

.

Pretty sure I knew the answer. Hey wait, I own this on cassette, I better know this! Eight correct Encores in a row!

Correct Answer:...3. Sarah McLachlan

[NTN Extra Fact:...It produced the hit "Into The Fire" which peaked at #4 on the Modern Rock chart.]

Sure that was in 1992 but actually 'Touch' made the American chart in 1989. In the liner notes on Solace there's Sarah nude in a few vaseline coated lens shots. Maybe there is a relationship with last week's artist.

I win with 29043 points for ROCKET. That's 1406th* in North America. The bar is 1544th. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for making this week's 17000 standard.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
