Encore Question of June 8th, 2002.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing with Doug CRANKY, Bill OH YA, Marlo ZIGGY, Marlo's father DAD, and Bill MADDOG. We put together a pretty good game.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...4500/5000...2nd/10...OH YA wins round. I'm in a four way tie for 2nd. OnBeat...11000/14000...3rd/9...CRANKY wins round and takes lead with 12250. I get seven right and two wrong which isn't bad. JukeBox...15799/20000...3rd/10...OH YA wins round and has lead with 17070. Triviaoke...23734/28000...2nd/10...I win round and CRANKY has lead.
So on to the Encore. Occupations? What could this be about? Having a book wouldn't help but I don't bring one anymore anyway. Well bring it on!
Encore Question:...The Police on "Don't Stand So Close To Me" tells the plight of a __________.
.
.
No problem for me as I know this song quite well even before I bought the group's box set about two Boxing Day sales ago. I make sure everybody answers as I've figured it out before the answers are redisplayed. This was Sting's actual occupation before he could make a living as a musician so I've wondered over the years about how biographical this song was.
Correct Answer:...3. Teacher
[NTN Extra Fact:...Sting of course was employed as a teacher before joining the band in 1977.]
I'm right and hold my position in 2nd. I finish with 35601 points. I'm 20th overall in North America. The bar is 18th in North America with a 31654 average. I earn 3000+ points for meeting this week's requirement of 16000. CRANKY wins.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank NTN Top 100 CRANKY 23931 35897 14 on Network Top 20 40 ROCKET 23734 35601 20 49 OH YA 21245 31867 92 ZIGGY 18411 27617 1413 DAD 18194 27291 1515 MADDOG 17814 26271 1692 GORD 6841 x 3421 8936 CAPER 5678 x 2839 9117 METLCA 4250 x 2125 9339 COSMO 1953 x 977 9696
After Playback I was ready to leave as the bar was crowding up with strangers who came to watch the Lennox Lewis vs Mike Tyson heavyweight title boxing match. I stopped to talk with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA and LeAnn CAPER who lost control of the television with so many people in the bar and couldn't play Playback. I thought with so many people coming in I'd underestimated this event and stayed to watch the fight. Great to see Lewis win and this was probably the end of Tyson. Best part was the few Tyson fans who gradually realized that Tyson would lose as he kept getting knocked down and finally knocked out.
Other games:...I start the evening with 2,169,300 points.
7:30pm...Countdown...3135/15000...7th/7...500+ points...I'm 7621st in NA...bar is 309th...COSMO wins.
I get here in time for the last four question.
8:00pm...Countdown...8674/15000...6th/8...1000+ points...I'm 2610th in NA...bar is 17th in North America with a 9682 average...OH YA wins.
8:30pm...Countdown...10503/15000...3rd/8...2000+ points...I'm 1015th in NA...bar is 179th...COSMO wins.
9:00pm...FIFA Soccer Countdown...13277/15000...1st/9...1000+ points...I'm 3rd in Canada...bar is 2nd in Canada with an 11923 average...more general soccer questions mostly about the rules of the game.
9:30pm...Countdown...11836/15000...2nd/10...1000+ points...I'm 1318th in NA...bar is 259th...MADDOG wins...This was not a Wipeout game probably because NTN wasted time giving us a survey about tequila.
