Encore Question of May 11th, 2002.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing at the bar with Doug CRANKY on my right and Richard BERGIE/BALROG, Kimmo KAV, Bill MADDOG and Marlo ZIGGY on my left. I was later than usual not getting here until 9:30pm. I had watched a soccer game in Hamilton and had just driven back home, parked my car, logged the score onto the Internet and walked to the bar in the rain. The rain, having a satellite television system installed just hours earlier, and wanting to tell the soccer world about the game gave me second thoughts about coming out tonight but I was glad when I got here. We were having a great game going 9 for 9 for the OnBeat round.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp....ROCKET...4500/5000...2nd/11...in seven way tie. ..........LITBOX...4500/5000...MADDOG wins round with 5000. OnBeat...ROCKET...13500/14000...2nd/11...our eight boards went 9 for 9. .........LITBOX...13500/14000...2nd/11. I hadn't spent any of today reading Internet music news but it didn't hurt as these questions seemed to be from the headlines of about three weeks ago. Maybe next month I'll show my ignorance. JukeBox...ROCKET...18327/20000...5th/11...BERGIE wins round and takes lead. ..........LITBOX...18311/20000...7th/11. Songwriters category Pet Songs was written by Brian Wilson. Serve up all the Beach Boys you want! We could control all the categories with the only other players being Sean and Rob with three boards. Triviaoke...ROCKET...24892/28000...1st/11...LITBOX wins round. ............LITBOX...24885/28000...2nd/11. Our whole bar takes a -250 for the Doris Day song.
Great scores so far! Now the Encore Answers show up. My book had fallen open at Dave Matthews Band. Musical styles means I can't bookmark anything. Richard has been guessing answers before the questions come up with an uncanny ESP and says the Encore answer will be '5'.
Encore Question:...What style of music did Fania Records help popularize in the '70s?
.
.
I've never heard of this company but fall for my idea that it's a Spanish name and spread the word that I think it's Salsa. I cut off Richard's suggestion that it could be Techno. "Techno wasn't popular in the 70s".
Correct Answer:...2. Salsa
[NTN Extra Fact:...Fania was known for its brilliantly graphic and distinctive album covers]
We all hold our positions. I finish 13th and 14th on my two boards. The bar finishes 8th in North America with a 36907 average. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points on both boards for meeting this week's 17000 point standard. My ROCKET board displaces some of my Hall Of Fame scores as I place 5th and 6th.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ntn Top 100 rank (restricted to 5 per bar) ROCKET 24892 37338 13 39 I'm 13th on the Network Top 20 LITBOX 24885 37327 14 40 BALROG 24657 36985 16 44 BERGIE 24616 36924 17 45 COSMO 24150 X 12075 6354 CRANKY 23974 35961 26 73 KAV 23868 X 11934 6397 MADDOG 23436 35154 38 ZIGGY 22366 33549 62 METLCA 21773 32659 140 VULGAR 21751 32627 150
Yes it was worth coming out tonight. I let out a cheer in my new Hamilton Thunder t-shirt. Now it's home to play with the family's satellite dish and type up some more details of the soccer game on the Internet.
Other games:...I start the evening with 2076500 Players Plus points for ROCKET. Over 2 million from last week's games? Richard says that every Players Plus player received a boost. I missed the opportunity of seeing my white star 1M turning to 2M.
9:30pm...Countdown....11833/15000...2nd/11...1000+ points...I'm 1423rd in NA...bar is 271st...ZIGGY wins.
Bill OH YA leaves and I take over his board as LITBOX with 233,600 P+ points.
