Encore Question of January 26th, 2002.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm working on two boards and playing with Kimmo KAV, Doug CRANKY, Richard BERGIE/ARSE, Dave COITIS and Bill OH YA on one side and Paul ZUKEE2 and a new guy playing as ROCK on my left. I'm having a good game but don't realize it because I was behind two boxes from the COSMO/METLCA/CAPER table for most of the game. Got my 20000 points anyway. I can't remember this many players before here for a Playback game. I hadn't seen Kimmo nor Paul in months.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp....ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/19 in nine way tie!... ..........LITBOX...5000/5000...my two boards and many others win the round. OnBeat...ROCKET...11750/14000...4th/19...COSMO wins round and has lead with 13500. .........LITBOX...11750/14000...7 right, 1 wrong, 1 not answered was ok and talked into that wrong guess. JukeBox...ROCKET...16915/20000...4th/19...COSMO wins round. ..........LITBOX...16906/20000...5th/19...using my left hand, well it was one of those tough to push Playmakers. I convince the others that none of the Four Tops had died (which was true a few years ago as compared to The Temptations but have to take it back). Triviaoke...ROCKET...23580/28000...2nd/19...LITBOX wins round. ............LITBOX...23575/28000...3rd/19...hey good round for me and didn't listen to Paul on the last song so caught second place.
The answers come up and my book had fallen open at John Hiatt and I can only bookmark one name as I realize that these are nicknames.
Encore Question:...One of the first great male blues stars of the 1920's was named __________ Jefferson.
.
.
I'm not sure of the answer. The one bookmark I've inserted is under Eric Clapton as I know he is 'Slow Hand'. The only name I know that's an actual person is 'Blind Lemon' but I'm wondering the 1920's might have been before his time. I've heard of this name as an early influence mentioned by The Rolling Stones. Also the mockumentary of The Rutles has a take off of this name. I tell the others what I'm picking but some of them have their own ideas and who's going to listen more than once to someone who can't tell apart The Temptations from The Four Tops? My new book can't help again this week.
Correct Answer:...5. Blind Lemon
[NTN Extra Fact:...His songs included "Black Snake", "Moan", and "Matchbox Blues"].
I'm right and win with 35370 points for ROCKET. That lands me 14th on The Network Top 20 in North America. The bar finishes 10th in North America with a 32517 average. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points on both boards for meeting this week's 18000 point standard. My top board earns both 3rd and 4th place on our Hall Of Fame board coming just two weeks after finishing 1st and 2nd. This is a quick way to push everyone else off the board. No individual rankings were given. Also with so many players, NTN didn't have enough time to read them all back before cutting off.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank (top 100 positions listed at ntn.com) COSMO 25188 x 12594 ROCKET 23580 35370 29 14th on Network Top 20 LITBOX 23575 35363 30 METLCA 23333 x 21000 BERGIE 22460 x 11230 KAV 22194 33291 58 CAPER 21293 x 14905 ZUKEE2 20219 30239 ARSE 19629 x 9815 COITIS 18823 28235 OH YA 18774 x 9387 ROCK 18691 28037 HIPPO 15535 x 7767 CRANKY 14195 x 7097 PAZAS 11542 x 9234 TOMCAT 9234 x 4617 MK 9047 x 7208 JAGASK 7340 x 6606 JA 3209 x 1604

I pick up Marlo's board ZIGGY when she and Bill MADDOG go home and change its name to LITBOX. I inherit her points for the first five questions but earn enough on my own to have the 5000 point standard. I'm 1386th. LITBOX starts the evening with 103500 points.
