Encore Question of October 20th, 2001.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Roy Rogers
  2. Gene Autry
  3. Roy Acuff
  4. Jimmy Rodgers
  5. Bill Munroe

Tonight I'm playing with Dave COITIS and Doug CRANKY by the time of the Triviaoke round. Ray MAC left and a visitor DALLAS left and I took over his board.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp....4500/5000...3rd/11 in four way tie. DALLAS and MAC have a perfect 5000.
OnBeat...10250/14000...1st/10 and catch up to DALLAS...(6 right, 1 wrong, 2 not answered).
JukeBox...14594/20000...2nd/10...MAC wins round...my DALLAS board with 14704 has lead.
Triviaoke...20997/28000...1st/8...I win round.

Old time country stars? Don't think my book will be much help.

Encore Question:...Which early Country performer was called "The Singing Brakeman"?

.

.

I don't know this one but for some reason don't think of the first three (in fact I need some help from the Playback group to reconstruct the question). Hmm Jimmy Rodgers sang 'Sloop John B' years before the Beach Boys. Would someone who sang about a boat be nicknamed after an occupation on the railway? I pick Bill Munroe early but didn't feel comfortable with this bluegrass star. Time's up!

Correct Answer:...4. Jimmy Rodgers

[NTN Extra Fact:...Rodgers was the first solo star of Country music and most called it's father.]

I'm wrong and both my boards fall. I earn only 1500+ Players Plus points for not meeting this week's 17000 point standard. I finish 6854th in North America and our bar is 1656th. I dragged my friends down too when I told them what I was choosing.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank
ROCKET	20997	x	10499	6854
DALLAS	20696	x	10348	6899
COITIS	15720	x 7860	7644
CRANKY	15262	x 7631	7713
HELP	14079 15487	5359
IRA	12461	x 6231	8132	(he'd already left)
BEN 8887	x 4443	8668
EASY 5730	x 2865	9141

I thought I'd read or heard somewhere before that this was Jimmy Rodgers nickname and I should know it but after looking through my music book and Pet Sound liner notes, couldn't find anything so didn't feel so bad.

There was a young guy who played with the handle DALLAS. He admitted he wasn't too good with movie questions but an expert on Country music (maybe the Encore question was before his time). He was on a mission to visit every Firkin bar in the chain. He's met DAVETV (we kept seeing his name at The Rose & Crown among the top scorers). This guy may be Dave's successor with the sense of humour to match. Too bad we may not see him here again.

I wasn't in a good spot as some visitors were taking up space eating not playing at the bar and I was sitting over by the taps. I could see all right but wasn't in any kind of 'team' playing until the Playback game when I stood over with the group to play.
