Encore Question of March 24th, 2001.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm in the lead with a good team effort getting me past 20000 points before the Encore question. I'm playing with Bill MADDOG, Paul ZUKEE, Kimmo KAV, Richard BERGIE and behind me a guy I hadn't met before but the group said he was a good player, MAC. Thanks to Richard giving me two and MAC calling two that I wouldn't have known, I must have done 4000 better than on my own.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...4500/5000...2nd/14 in tie with COSMO...MAC has perfect round. OnBeat...11250/14000...2nd/14...MADDOG wins round and has lead with 11500. I'm 7 right, 1 wrong, and 1 I stayed away from. One lucky guess and Richard's tips for 2000 so I can't complain. JukeBox...16535/20000...1st/14...MAC wins round and calls out a tough movie question before the answer shows up. Triviaoke...23182/20000...1st/14...I win round...the Beach Boys song "Dance, Dance, Dance" I got for 1000 but couldn't call it out because there were five reasonable answers (HA! some BB expert after last week's brag!)...only one -250 mark.
So the Encore question was going to be about Country ladies? A groan within our group. I know the least about Emmylou Harris so bookmark that, and also Dolly Parton. Who else? Oops too late.
Encore Question:...She had a country and pop hit with her '77 album "Simple Dreams"
.
.
1977 Album? Well it's not Dolly Parton my book reveals. Paul says "Look up Linda Ronstadt...those cover songs". Yeah ok. didn't even flip to my bookmarked Emmylou Harris. There it is! "Number 1 for five weeks" I say and make sure everyone has answered and we still have 15 seconds left. Thanks Paul! Hmm lot of '2' Encore answers recently after a few years without them.
Correct Answer:...2. Linda Ronstadt
[NTN Extra Fact:...Her country hits included "When Will I Be Loved" and "Blue Bayou".]
When I've got time at my better lighted home to look it over the four hits from that album were "Blue Bayou", "It's So Easy", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", and "Tumbling Dice". "When Will I Be Loved" was actually off her previous album "Heart Like A Wheel".
I'm right and finish with 34773 points; good for 3rd on the Network Top 20. My highest ranking ever. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 16000 point standard. The bar is 2nd (later pushed down to 3rd) in North America with a 32197 average. The Regulars who left for the Bull & Firkin kick our tails so often that I had trouble recognizing our bar's name up so high!
No individual rankings were given and the system didn't have enough time to count up the 14th to 1st right/wrong, stopping at 6th as NTN earlier in the evening had taken another consumer survey. I filled in the rest by board-peeking.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ROCKET 23182 34773 7 3rd on Network Top 20 MAC 22205 33307 8 MADDOG 21712 32568 11 ZUKEE 21063 31594 19 KAV 19162 28743 41 COSMO 19107 28661 NTN only lets a bar's five best scores rank BERGIE 18130 27195 in the Top 100. METLCA ? ? ?not sure of his final score, but Encore right. WUNDER 13314 17308 HINDO 11739 17609 FREEKS 11428 x 10285 CRANKY 8032 12048 KPSP 4696 x 2348 DOG 1897 x 949
I made sure I thanked MAC and my friends for helping me.
Other games:...I started the evening with 1356800+ points. Some of the players like MADDOG were boosted 3 million points for playing a certain night when the system acted up.
7:30pm...Countdown...233/15000...12th/12...500+ points...MAC wins, the bar is 16th overall...I'm just glad I got here in time for the last question to earn the easy 500+.
