Tonight I'm in 4th place coming into the Encore round after another terrible game where I can't reach 20000. I once again earned less than 3000 points in the Triviaoke round with plenty of wrong answers. I was playing with Dave COITUS, Doug CRANKY, Richard BERGIE, Bill MADDOG, and Paul ZUKEE. The bar had the music cranked up for St Patrick's Day with Irish tunes playing in a loop so we heard the same Irish Rovers tunes and others four times in our time there. I didn't hear Paul all night as he was out of earshot although only 12 feet away. I had a drunken Cheech Marin soundalike behind me and tonight the barmaids were wearing 18 inch tall fuzzy hats but fortunately didn't walk in front of the monitors at crucial times.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp....4000/5000...1st/16 in four way tie with ZUKEE, COITUS, and FAZS...I got some 50/50 guesses right this week. OnBeat...9750/14000...3rd/16...ZUKEE wins round...I guess 6 right, 1 wrong, and 2 not answered. JukeBox...14996/20000...3rd/20...METLCA wins round...COITUS in lead. Triviaoke...17978/28000...4th/20...CRANKY wins round, ZUKEE in lead...a lot of wrong answers.
The Encore question could be about anything and Bill said he knew about every group except Looking Glass so I bookmarked that. I should know everything about The Beach Boys and didn't have time to look up anything else...it did seem dark in here this week.

I didn't need a book for this nor time for the answers to come back on display! I made sure our group got the answer clicked in. There were two reasons I knew (more description below).

Actually that's "Bluebirds OVER The MOUNTAIN". How's that for a superfan? I usually read once a week the USENET forum alt.music.beach-boys and contributors have mentioned watching in a tv mini-series that Charles Manson hung around the group in the mid-60s. Guns N' Roses got into trouble for using one of his songs years later. I also recognized the tune but got more of a jolt when I got home. It's on their "20/20" album (that's the expression I use--20/20 hindsight--since I began this webpage). I've bought all their 'two-fers' CDs in the last two years. The liner notes don't mention the Manson angle. It's listed as a Dennis (the drummer) Wilson song. Last year I would often jump right to the next song, "Our Prayer" the 23rd track (a two-fer with 'Friends') when I didn't have much time and cry after visiting my mother in the hospital.
I'm right and stay in 4th place with 26967 points. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 19000 point standard. The individual rankings are not given for this game although ZUKEE finishes 15th on the Network Top 20 board. Our bar finishes 11th (later bumped to 14th) in North America with a 27805 average. Well that makes up for not knowing which musician will NOT be playing at the Brian Wilson tribute (I didn't answer that question in the Triviaoke round).

I pick up an abandoned board and earn 6013/15000...13th/16 as LITBOX just making the 2000+ standard on the last question...185th in NA...that's 49500 P+ points for my alternate name.
9:00pm...Wipeout...7010/15000...9th/17...1000+ points...I'm 1734th in NA...bar is 15th in NA with a 9787 average...BERGIE wins.
9:30pm...Countdown...11903/15000...2nd/16...1000+ points...I'm 314th in NA...bar is 59th...there are no individual standings posted as NTN wasted the game's first ten minutes taking a consumer survey.
