Encore Question of December 23rd, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm playing with Doug CRANKY, Bill OH YA, Bill MADDOG, Kimmo KAV, and Paul ZUKEE. Mostly we were worried by a non player Robert coming back to distract us. This old guy was given the nickname 'Touchy Feely' because he was always shaking hands and patting your shoulder or back but who didn't want to play 'this F****** game' but he'd be offering answers after the answer was displayed. We'd never seen him before. He was convinced to go over and play pool and looked like he was having a better time than hanging around us and so didn't bother us during Playback. Most of the game had been Christmas songs except the current event OnBeat round. In that one I was only 5 right, 2 wrong, and 2 I didn't even guess.
We felt lucky just to play as the 9:30pm game had be restarted when the questions and answers superimposed on the advertisements and they made the screen unreadable by the second question. It happened the night before they said. We had time for 11 questions but the Playback game came uninterrupted.
Here's how my game had gone so far: TuneUp....4000/5000....2nd/10 in three way tie...ZUKEE wins with 4500. OnBeat...8500/14000...1st/10...I win this round. JukeBox...13887/20000...1st/10...I win this round. Triviaoke...19916/28000...1st/10...I win this round.
I end up with the usual points so can't really complain about the Christmas theme. It was the TuneUp round that threw me. I was wearing my 10000 Maniacs t-shirt over a long sleeved shirt but the news of Robert Buck's death may have been too late in the week.
So these names for Encore didn't sound too Christmasy. Except George Harrison sang 'Ding Dong'...
Encore Question:...23000 fans packed Madison Square Gardens to witness the 1974 marriage of:

My book is good for birthdates, place of birth and deathdates but not marriages so it didn't help. "Anybody know?" I ask as now PJ had come into the bar. Nobody could say. I think I would have heard if George Harrison had been married like that with all the recent stories about the Beatles for their book. Did Jerry Garcia ever get married? Was Eric Clapton also quiet? I'd already pressed in Sly Stone and didn't think Bob Dylan would want all that publicity. I'm glad I ran out of time or I may have changed my answer. What feeble reasons for a choice.
Correct Answer:...4 Sly Stone
I'm right and win with 29874. That's good for 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 15000 point standard. Neither our bar nor the individual rankings were given and that meant even the Top 20 for both categories.
*Later in the week I found the Top 100 rankings at the ntn.com site. Our bar finished 7th in North America with a 23299 average. I finished 14th on the Network Top 20, 24th overall.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ROCKET 19916 29874 24 (14th on Network Top 20) MADDOG 18219 27329 40 OH YA 16383 24575 80 ZUKEE 14361 x 7181 FREEKS 13553 20299 TASIA 13111 14422 KAV 12696 x 6348 CRANKY 12213 x 6107 DAHID(?) 8555 12833 NCC OI 5279 x 2639
