Encore Question of December 16th, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. ABBA
  2. Wings
  3. Fifth Dimension
  4. Fleetwood Mac
  5. Human League

Tonight I'm playing with Richard BERGIE, Paul ZUKEE, Bill MADDOG, and Kimmo KAV. I wanted to play with two boards tonight because The Regulars are never coming back (more on that later!) but got my wish indirectly when Dave COITUS left right after the TuneUp round and I took his board. I was really trying to get the group playing as a team and get a Top 20 finish for the bar to show that we could find our place without The Regulars.

My game so far had gone like this:
Tune-Up....4000/5000...2nd/12 in five way tie...ZUKEE wins round at 4500.
OnBeat...10500/14000...2nd/12...I was a cowinner in our big group. ZUKEE has lead with 11000..
7 right, 2 wrong is a bit better than the last month.
JukeBox...13990/20000...3rd/12...Dan B wins round...ZUKEE still in lead.
Triviaoke...19939/28000...1st/15...My COITUS board wins round...ROCKET in the lead.
(Overconfident about a John Lennon question in JukeBox and I didn't even look up when they
threw my answer out sinking the whole team of -250 and costing my chance to reach 30000).

So this Encore is something about music groups. I know them all quite well. Richard says Human League before the question comes up. Yeah right! I bookmark '1' and '5' and ask "who else" and find '3' (what short term recall!).

Encore Question:...What act never featured real life husband and wife members?

.

.

Hey I know this with 25 seconds to spare. I make sure everyone else has it. "He just lived with the girl, he never married her" I say a few times. (ie Phil Oakey and Susanne Sulley, the dark haired one). The rest of the time we just named the other couples.

Correct Answer:...5 Human League

[NTN Extra Fact:...Other acts featuring married couples include The Mamas & The Papas and The Miami Sound Machine.]

I win with 29909 points. That's enough to earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's standard although I didn't catch what it was. The Network Top 20 was displayed and.....gloom The Bull & Firkin was ranked Number 1 which is where The Regulars have made their home and Barry JARVIS was the Number 2 player. Wait....The Frog & Firkin finishes 15th in North America with a 27997 point average!

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore	Final	Rank
ROCKET	19939 29909 84
COITUS	19031 28547 112
ZUKEE	18913 28369 116
MADDOG	18440 27660 275
BERGIE	17001 25501	1004
STOCO	16032 24048	1545
KAV	15809 23713	1663
JERKIN	14744 22116	2224
DAN B	10412	x 6247	7803
SKYDVE 8404 12606	5561
CRANKY 8363	x 4184	8529
NATALI 7742 11613	5916
IHATEU 3578	x 1789	9371
EVIE 2392 2870	8991
MARK (?) 2371 3557	8749
PUNK 614	x 307	9892

Ok so we're all alone without our top six players never coming back! I did know a bit about this before I arrived because on a Playback mailing list I belong to, Kim MOLSON/VIKING explained that they'd had a dispute with management about something and they would now be going to the Bull & Firkin. [Looks like The Firkin chain won't be hurting because they'll just make their money at another location]. I told my group and the reaction was quite happy! Eminen? We could be Enema, it's just unprintable. When a barmaid does a 'Church Lady' dance there's some pent up hostility. Strange, I was the one who probably was the most jealous three years ago after being such hot stuff coming over from Joe Grinders bar and they'd cheer when I miss the Encore and once shone one of those red laser-light pointers in my eyes, but I came to like them gradually and we started sharing answers the last few months as the Encore's got harder and harder.

What about the weeks to come playing as a team? Well I'll be the first to disappoint because I can cross off two weeks near the end of January when I won't be there and just looking at the next two weeks during holiday season I said I'll 'probably' be there but wished my friends a Merry Christmas on my way out just in case.

We met Bill MADDOG's nephew Richard and he got a board when I was leaving although RetroTV may not be the best way for a young 20 something player to get his start.

Other games:...I start the night with 1232300+ points.
8:00pm...Countdown...12539/15000...1st/9...1000+ points...34th in NA...bar rank is not given.
8:30pm...Countdown...13659/15000...1st/12...2000+ points...no individual nor bar rank given.
9:00pm...Wipeout...10513/15000...1st/12...1000+ points...68th in NA...bar is 10th in North America with a 9203 average.
9:30pm...Wipeout...11624/15000...1st/10...1000+ points...97th in NA (but a 0 point score ranked 316th so what was everyone else playing?)...bar is 22nd.
Although they couldn't help me this week in the music game, my scores for these other games must be about 2000 points better than if I was playing alone.
