Encore Question of October 14th, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.

Answers:

  1. Barry Gibb
  2. Paul Simon
  3. Jimi Hendrix
  4. Herbie Hancock
  5. Tom Jones

Tonight I'm back out playing after missing a month and I'm doing alright with Richard BERGIE and Bill MADDOG except that The Regulars are playing their best ever. KELLY has a perfect game going into the Triviaoke round. Brian OLDUDE is here too but a bit out of earshot.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp....4500/5000...3rd/16 (six way tie)...JARVIS and KELLY win round with 5000.
OnBeat...11000/14000...8th/17...The Regulars are well ahead, KELLY wins round.
Hey 7 right, 2 wrong with me not reading much about music for the last month. Richard gave
me two right and one wrong on my clueless patches.
JukeBox...16082/20000...8th/17...KELLY wins round and has 20000!
Triviaoke...23793/28000...6th/18...I win this round and at least catch two of their boards.

So male musicians are shown as answers? I'm in a spot here as I left my micro recorder at home and will have to try to write this down longhand. It's also too dark to see my book and was given Richard's blessing to see if I could help KELLY. Their group was just behind the next partition anyway but it was much brighter on their side. Great, I only write two answers down. No time to bookmark. I'll get the answers from the Playback message board members the next day anyway. OK here comes the Encore: (Well as close as I can remember).

Encore Question:...Which artist thanked Stevie Wonder for not coming out with an album in 1975 in his Grammy acceptance speech?

Well Joe ENIGMA has the answer right off. I can only help by double checking and find it with about 10 seconds to go to reassure them they've got it. I miss signalling back to my own group but some of them get it right.

Correct Answer:...2. Paul Simon

[NTN Extra Fact: missed it]...probably something about the winning album, "Still Crazy After All These Years".

I should have got it but really don't have time to think. It would have been quite a seance for Jimi Hendrix to give a Grammy speech in 1975! Barry Gibb won everything a few years later. Too soon for Herbie Hancock and Tom Jones wasn't so successful in the mid 70s. I was watching a music special today about how Paul Simon recorded 'Graceland' but didn't tune into the beginning to hear them mention this. Joe did!

I'm right and stay in 6th place. I finish with 35689 points. That's good for 17th overall in North America. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 20000 standard. The bar is #1 in North America with a 38631 average! The Regulars get the top 3 spots on the individual rankings.

Here's how the rest of the bar did: (with me working some of the scores backwards from my notes).
There were no individual rankings given; I found the top 100 on the ntn.com site.

8:00pm...Countdown...8707/15000...5th/11...1000+ points...I'm 62nd in NA...bar is 5th in North America with a 9056 average...OLDUDE wins.

I've got some work to do informing the Internet world that my web page and e-mail address changed.
