Encore Question of August 12, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York Ontario.
Answers:
Tonight I'm here for the first time in seven weeks and was pleased with myself for scoring over 20000 on the two boards (ROCKET and LITBOX) I control tonight. I started this game playing with Dave COITIS but he left to play pool with a new friend after the OnBeat round and erased his name between rounds. I passed the board to Bill MADDOG for him just to type in his handle and PIN so we wouldn't lose the score (that board had the highest score of the three). Eventually he joined me to play.
My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp....ROCKET...4000/5000...2nd/19. ..........LITBOX...3500/5000...3rd/19.......COITIS wins with 4500. OnBeat....ROCKET...9250/14000...8th/19...Hey I'm 6 right, 3 wrong which was great for not reading music news except for the mainstream press for quite a few weeks. ..........LITBOX...8750/14000...9th/19....VIKING, ELVIS, and TIGER win round with 7750. JukeBox....ROCKET...14223/20000...8th/16. ..........LITBOX...13751/20000...9th/16. Triviaoke....ROCKET...22106/28000...7th/16. ..........LITBOX...21629/28000...9th/16.
Well the answers are old time Country Stars which I don't know but of course I put 50% of my points on the line. I turn my book (Top Albums) to Johnny Horton although he's who I know the most about (Battle Of New Orleans, Waterloo) and Ferlin Huskey (oh oh he's not in my book). Here comes the Encore:
Question:...What country singer earned the nickname of "The Voice"?
I don't know this. I start with putting #1 for ROCKET and #3 for LITBOX. More to flip through. Ernest Tubbs is not in my book, neither is Vern Gosdin. I'm thinking on my own too. Hank Snow, Canadian but wasn't he called 'the something gentleman'? The Voice doesn't necessarily mean he had a velvet voice like Mel Torme, it could just be distinctive like Johnny Horton. Out of time...at least Bill covered Johnny Horton.
Correct Answer:...2 Vern Gosdin
[NTN extra fact:...He got the name from his powerful dramatic vocals].
I'm wrong and fall to 11053 and 10815. I earn 1500+ Players Plus points for not meeting this week's 17000 point standard. I don't have far to drop and fall to 8th and 11th. The bar is 14th in North America with an 18058 average. Wow we weren't the only bar hurt by this question.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank ELVIS 23261 x 11631 5310 TIGER 22776 34164 44 (8th on the Network Top 20 board). changed name to ENIGMA MOLSON 22361 x 11181 5492 VIKING 22341 x 11171 5496 MADDOG 22221 x 11111 5520 OLE JR 22209 x 11105 5522 (Chris changes her name from KELLY to OLE JR but ROCKET 22106 x 11053 5543 Barry wasn't here) ALKIE 21788 x 10894 5607 LITBOX 21629 x 10815 5639 YOU 15554 x 10888 5610 BUMGAS 14978 x 7489 6980 RED 14765 22147 1071 FLAIR(?)11339 x 7937 6800 SHZKOP 11280 x 5640 7726 WAZZUP 8808 x 4404 8224 JESTER 5117 x 2559 8968
I confirm it was some of The Regulars who were up in Collingwood and got them on the Network board. Joe brought his Top 100 Singles book and Top 40 Album book so they can keep up with me.
Other games:...I start the evening with 1108300 Players Plus points as ROCKET and 28500 for LITBOX.
