Encore Question of June 17, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York.
Answers:
Tonight I'm in 8th place since the OnBeat round. I was pleased that I stayed in the game with 8 of 9 in the OnBeat round as knowing I wouldn't be playing for a few weeks, I hadn't been going out of my way to read anything about the music scene. I'm playing with Bill MADDOG, another Bill OH YA, Dave COITUS, Kimmo KAV, and for the first time in many months Brian OLDUDE.
My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp....4500/5000...11th/16...10 players tie for 1st. OnBeat...12250/14000...8th/16...some of the Regulars win the round and pull further ahead. JukeBox...16924/20000...8th/16...ELVIS wins round, KELLY is in the lead. Triviaoke...22326/28000...8th/16...MOLSON wins round and takes lead.
I ask Bill who was set to wander off how much he wanted to bet before the answers came up. He sometimes bet conservative to win if the others were wrong. Nope? OK everybody in for 50%. He decides to stay for the last question. I can't look at anything in my book yet with answers like this.
Question:...The soundboard of an accoustic guitar is usually made of:
I don't know this. Bill said 'Spruce'. I wonder because we haven't had a '2' answer in a few years! OK I'm thinking of accoustic guitars and the image of some of those wrestlers hitting each other with balsa wood guitars but I have no doubt that Bill would know. He were talking with these young English tourists earlier in the evening about rock and roll. He was the bassist for the band 'Copper Penny', a popular band in the early 1970s. He lived the rock and roll lifestyle of the time. I met him from Joe Grinders days when he led the group 'Yes Bill, What Is It'. Ok '2' it is. Joe TIGER/ENIGMA from The Regulars comes around the corner to ask Bill. Good choice to be the messenger as he's a drummer and they get along pretty well. Wow great if it is '2' because other bars have caught on to the patterns the quizwriters use.
Correct Answer:...2. Spruce
[NTN Extra Fact:...Trees grown slowly on cold mountain slopes work best.]
I'm right and end up with 33489 points. I stay in 8th place and earn 3000 Players Plus points for making the 19000 point standard this week. Individual rankings weren't given but I found the Top 100 on ntn.com. so I found myself at 59. The bar is 1st in North America with a 38943 point average. Kim MOLSON/VIKING wins and is the top score in North America. He comes over to thank Bill and tries to convince him to come out again Tuesday night to help them wind the Showdown game like last week.
