Encore Question of April 15, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York.
Answers:
Tonight I'm in 4th place going into the Encore round playing with a huge 8 brain/8 board group. Richard BERGIE, Bill MADDOG, and Dave COITUS and me were joined by two young couples--KPTKT, REDEYE, MAV, and BILBO. We had eight of the top nine spots. I got lots of help during the OnBeat round. My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp....4000/5000...2nd/15...KPTKT wins. OnBeat...10750/14000...4th/16...I have 7 right, 1 wrong, and 1 unanswered...BERGIE and REDEYE win round. JukeBox...15045/20000...4th/16...TIGER wins round...REDEYE has lead with 15657. Another Beach Boy lyric; this one for Sloop John B. (ok first done by Jimmy Rodgers). Triviaoke...21570/28000...4th/16...KPTKT wins round.
The answers displayed for the Encore round make me say my music book won't help me out tonight. When I say that, I usually put my book away but I kept it in my lap. I didn't think our bar had done very well tonight. The Regular team must really have missed ELVIS and Barry JARVIS/OLE JR. Steve WORDZ got here really late into the game. With 50% of our points on the line:
Question:...In what business did Carly Simon's father make the family fortune?
I didn't bother to think, I might have a chance to look this one up. Flip, flip, flip, Carly Simon...yes it does say it. I've read it before anyway but this reminds me. Ok I spread the word to our area of the bar and enough time to tell The Regulars whether they want to know the answer or not! I could have last week's answer too if I'd looked under Yehuti Menuhin directly rather then eliminate each choice.
Correct Answer:...5. Publishing
[NTN extra fact:...He was one of the founders of Simon & Shuster in New York.]
I'm right and hold in 4th place. I finish 33rd in NA with 32355 points. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting this week's 19000 point standard. The bar is 3rd in North America with a 33095 average. BERGIE wins with 34555 points.
I wanted to put myself to the test of finding a reference within 30 seconds. It's not much different than my day job while I'm on the telephone except my music book is in alphabetical order. I gain some compliments for being so fast. I'm more pleased with the team we put together this week. Everyone knew something about different aspects of music. The next day I see two of last night's players not wearing our superhero costumes.
Here's how the rest of the bar did: Player preEncore Final Rank BERGIE 23037 34555 17 4th on the Top 20 board. The Sun Sports Countdown game has been bumped to 7:00pm. None of us are usually there that early in the evening. I usually lose the games but there is sometimes one soccer question so I'll join the players e-mail protest to ntnc.com. How many more people do they expect than the over 500 players from around Southern Ontario? Earlier today, I got my photo taken with Canadian international player Charmaine Hooper while at a soccer trade show.
