Encore Question of February 19, 2000.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York.
Answers:
Tonight I'm well behind the leaders while controlling two boxes and playing with Kimmo KAV. Bill MADDOG and David JD had left well before 9:30pm. I've only earned 17000 on both boards as I only 'split' one Tune-Up question. I couldn't hit any guesses tonight. I'd seen Beck's newest CD in the store but didn't recognize the title, read the headline that Screaming Jay Hawkins died but didn't read what city he died in etc. We were behind the five boards of the three Regulars.
My game so far had gone like this: TuneUp...ROCKET...3000/5000...9th/16...TIGER wins with 5000. LITBOX...3500/5000...7th/16. OnBeat...ROCKET...8250/14000...7th/17...TIGER wins and leads with 11500. LITBOX...8750/20000...6th/17...six right and three wrong for me was better than I thought at the time. JukeBox...ROCKET...11707/20000...10th/17...TIGER wins and leads with 15939. LITBOX...12229/20000...8th/17. Triviaoke...ROCKET...17356/28000...8th/16...VIKING wins round. LITBOX...17893/28000...7th/16.
The five choices didn't look too promising except that these quiz writers like James Brown and Marvin Gaye. Instead of trying to dictate the entire bar's score into my microrecorder, I spent the time putting my fingers into the pages of the first two answers in my book. Finally I'll use it instead of carrying it like luggage. OK 50% of my points on the line...
Question:...His "Live At The Apollo" from 1963 is considered one of the greatest live albums ever recorded.
...Well start looking, but wait, the big clue here is 1963. That's too early for the Motown artists Wonder and Gaye. Doesn't matter as my finger runs up the page....there, first charted album of James Brown's career. I tip off KAV and two young guys further along the bar.
Correct Answer:...1 James Brown
[NTN Extra Fact:...When his record company refused to fund the recording, Brown paid for it himself.]
I'm right but only hold my place in the standings at 7th and 8th. I earn 3000+ points for meeting this week's 21000 standard. ENIGMA wins with 33989 points (Joe TIGER had changed his name at the last question but I knew it was him from the first round). The bar is 9th in North America with a 31515 average.

I took account tonight of my total points to date when I logged on. ROCKET with 969800, LITBOX with 14500. The bar has resumed the practise of giving out a Frequent Player Trivia Ticket to winners of the games. I collected one for the 8:30 game.
