Encore Question of May 8th, 1999.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York.

Answers:

  1. Robin Trower
  2. Eric Clapton
  3. Jeff Beck
  4. Jimmy Page
  5. Ron Wood

I'm in 8th place out of 15 thanks to fizzling out in the Triviaoke round. I had the lead before that round thanks to winning the TuneUp and JukeBox round. I'm playing with ard BERGIE Richard, FLAK Chris, and Keemo who doesn't have a board although Richard and I have a semi-dead extra board going he named KENNY.

My game so far had gone like this:
TuneUp....5000/5000....1st/14...I win this round.
OnBeat...12750/14000...1st/14...9 players including me finish with 8 right 1 wrong. Keemu gave us a great answer about James Brown being the newest celebrity to sell bonds/shares in his future.
JukeBox...18704/20000...1st/16...I win this round.
Triviaoke...23106/28000...8th/15...KELLY wins this round. I haven't seen tv show 'Friends' in a year but I was never sure of the theme lyrics.

So we have 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th boards with good scores anywhere else but this bar. Might as well risk the usual 50%. "Who is Robin Trower?" and "I've heard of him but where?" is what we're mumbling.

Question:...Which British guitarist co-produced Bryan Ferry's 1993 album "Taxi"?

Well Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music who would be most likely to work with him? Someone arty unless he wanted to change his image. I'd still had this Robin Trower name in my mind thinking about record reviews. He'd be the least well known of these answers. It's more likely that I'd have heard about it if it was one of these 'more famous' players. I was in with '1' and convinced our little group to use that answer.

Correct Answer:...........1. Robin Trower

Extra Reply:....He produced Ferry's next album..(cut off, probably said)......["Mamouna" made in 1994...etc].

In my music book Robin Trower is listed with many solo albums and as the guitarist for Procol Harum until 1971.

I see that I'm right and look down and see I've won the game and we've also got 2nd and 3rd and FLAK in the distance has 4th. I finish with 34659 points and that makes 18th on the network TOP 20 board and 29th overall. The bar also finishes 18th in North America with a 27601 average. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points for meeting tonight's 14000 standard. MOLSON says The Regulars all went with Jeff Beck.

Here's how our bar did:

I miss one week and come back to find they've raised a pint of beer by 30 cents. Last week's Encore question was "Backed by The Blue Caps, he was injured in the car accident that killed Eddie Cochran" Answer: Gene Vincent...I would have got that one as they've asked about the Blue Caps last year and also I was in a CONTIKI tour bus back in 1986 when I announced that we were in the stretch of highway outside Bath England where the accident took place. The bar was 11th with a 34762 average but noone was in the Top 100 at ntn.com. That site slipped up the week before when all our top players PIN numbers were displayed for the whole week.
