CNSL September 10th game

Subject: CNSL Scarborough Astros vs Toronto Jets

Here are my comments on the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL)
game played Sunday September 10th, 1995 between Scarborough Astros and
Toronto Jets at Scarborough's Birchmount Stadium at 8pm. This contest
was considered a LEAGUE game.

Scarborough Astros (yellow socks and shirts, blue shorts and numbers)

			 1 Paulo Silva
7 Alex Nardi 2 Andrew Czalij 3 Rene Martin 19 Kerwin Skeete
13 Audley Taffe 21 Rick Titus 18 Michael Marshall 8 Gad Espinosa
9 Laszlo Martonfi 11 Gary DeLeon

subs 12 Fiorin Oprea (GK) 5 Leo Lopez 14 Ednie Tavares 16 Kevin
Galindo 20 Alim Kajon

Toronto Jets (all blue with black numbers and one white hoop with
extension running down sleeves)

			1 Joe Ciaravino
3 John Annisi 4 Richard Alexander 6 John Vidach 5 Tom Perks
16 Lino Solomita 13 Vince Cancelliere 11 Lillian Tourill 8 Orlando Rizzo
7 Garvin Houston 9 Robert Marcucci

subs 12 Aldo Aiudi (GK) 10 Jack Zomparelli 15 Tony Zanini 14 Luigi
Moccola 2 Miguel Ferraira

referee was Julio Chaccho
weather conditions: cool

1st half

8 min Astro Espinosa tries one of those midfield snake shots to catch
goalie off his line but ball goes wide.

11 min Astro chip shot free kick from 30 yards over three man wall
headed into goalpost. Kick taken right on ref's whistle caused some
confusion.

15 min Jets Rizzo gets rush shot when two Jets squeeze goalie into
quick clearance after passback.

18 min Jets GOAL a point blank shot on goal but rebound slid in by
Houston (3rd of season) from 5 yards.

32 min Jets corner squeezes through crowd and results in a point blank
shot and save.

35 min Jets Yellow card to Marcucci for clipping Czalij as they crash
together at midfield.
36 min Astro corner straight and chest high to goalie.
37 min Jets injury to Houston as heads collide at Astros 35 yard line.

2nd half

49 min Astros Titus slams into Jet goalie after he catches ball.
(can't remember now if that resulted in a yellow card or an injury).

51 min Astro goalie beaten by 25 yards but Martin? gets back to clear
loose ball from 10 yards out. Silva is the CNSL's Higita style goalie
but he did stay back when he starred for the CNSL AllStars against
Parma).

52 min Astro Yellow card Martonfi for diving in penalty area.

56 min Astro sub Lopez replaces Marshall
63 min Jets sub Ferraira replaces Vidach

66 min Jets Marcucci gets pass 35 yards out with goalie even with him.
Goalie doesn't let him turn and boots ball out of bounds.

69 min Astro GOAL DeLeon (6th of year) picks up ball 15 yards from
net and puts it over goalie standing 7 yards out even though goalie
gets a hand on it.

72 min Astros GOAL DeLeon (7th of season) on penalty shot as he
blasts high to centre of net and goalie guesses centre but dives low.
This play was set up by an Astro forward on a 1 on 2 actually running
away from net across box but is tripped.

80 min Jets GOAL shot from Tourill squeezes through goalie between
left post or legs. Shot was taken on rush from 10 yards out and 10
yards wide of left post.

Final score Scarborough Astros 2
	Toronto Jets 2

League Standings (finish 1st and win championship, finish 1st to 4th
to enter a playoff contest for a different trophy). 10 game schedule

FIFA 3-1-0 system Games Points

1. Toronto Italia 8 14
2. St Catharines Wolves 6 13
3. London City 9 13
4. Toronto Jets 7 11
5. Scarborough Astros 6 6
6. Hamilton White Eagles8 4

Big winner in the last weeks is London City who after almost
completing their schedule, watch as the other teams waste their
opportunities by tieing. Astros were 3 games, 4 points three weeks
ago.
Attendance was a pathetic 100 people and because Birchmount Stadium
has seating on both sides, it looked even more barren. No "programs"
(actually one page lineups) for the fans were available. I copied my
lineups in the pressbox.

No Toronto area teams playing home games midweek so I won't report
again until next Tuesday.
Bye for now.
