SUBJECT:CNSL Toronto Italia vs London City
Newsgroups: rec.sport.soccer
Here are the details of the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL)
between Toronto Italia and London City on Monday August 7, 1995 at
Etobicoke Centennial Stadium at 8pm. This was considered an Umbro Cup
game. The crowd was only about 400. It was the end of a three day
weekend for this province.

7 Anton Skerritt 9 Peter Firebrace
subs 13 Franco Vaiano, 12 Goraw Gubic, 14 Nick Maxwell, 15 Tony

Mahoney(player/coach) ,33 Greg Sinnott 35 Andrew Loague
I don't know when they came into the game but before it was over,
Commisso, Mahoney, Loague, and Davies had all played.
ref Mike Fretanovich, linesmen ???? Kelly and Les Wilcox.
1st half
5 min Maradona threads pass through to Firebrace who was not offside,
Firebrace runs 5 yards then scuffs shot wide.
9 min Yellow card London Best for sideswiping Maradona.
20 min London player shook off handball to start dangerous rush and
rebound.
22 min Italia player takes 25 yard blast off London goalpost, Skerritt
or Firebrace shoot rebound wide. (it didn't matter which one to blame
this incident as they both shot high or wide a few times each).
23 min Firebrace injured for a few minutes but continues to play.
29 min Firebrace shoots bouncing pass over net. (this concluded five
minutes of pressure including about three corners)
Halftime score 0-0. Italia had more chances but had that one-too-many
passes or let-me-deke-one-more-man for that perfect shot attitude so
wasted what they had.
47 min Italia GOAL Palmietta took shot from side of net to far side.
(I only caught the last split second of this play as I was up in the
pressbox asking questions about the upcoming Parma-CNSL AllStar game.
49 min Eldridge has breakaway but Kraemer in pursuit, goalie gets hand
on ball. Eldridge turns and falls, Bayliss? blasts ball into back of
fallen Eldridge missing open net.
55 min London GOAL A long throw in is headed in by Bottineau sideways
into open net. (only saw the last bet of this goal too as I was
wiping my glasses). That's two I missed. The CFMT camera was there so
maybe they're replay it on the Italian sportscast at 8:15pm today.
67 min Franco Vaiano replaces Palmitta.
69 min Kraemer volleys shot from 20 yards out over crowd of players,
headed out of goal by defender on line.
71 min Nick Maxwell replaces Mazza.
72 min London GOAL Kraemer takes freekick after offside whistle about
15 yards from his goal. Mahoney is gestering at linesman who called
him offside, and Kraemer's kick hits him. Mahoney turns and volleys
shot over goalie into net. (Oops blooper time).
75 min Italia GOAL Maradona takes pass about 15 yards out and to
right of goal and takes one step freezing goalie, and then takes low
shot to far left of goal.
76 min Italia GOAL Crljeaw takes place in almost the same place as
last goal and takes low shot to far left of goal. (almost an instant
replay).
79 min Italia GOAL Maxwell takes through ball to left of net and
takes low shot to right side of net from about 10 yards out.
80 min Italia sub Goraw Gubic replaces Maradona.
83 min Italia sub Tony Morrison and Sean Long replace Skerritt and
Firebrace. Unannounced but these looked like the only players still
left. I guess I've just found out the league allows five subs a game!
Final Score: Toronto Italia 4
London City 2
Things I missed in the Jets-White Eagles game July 27th:
attendance was 300-400
Rizzo's 49th minute goal was a penalty shot. The goalie twisted like
a pretzel because he guessed wrong but almost recovered.
Robert Marcucci of the Jets was named CNSL player of the week.
For the 1st week of August, Nicky Maxwell of Italia was named player
of the week.
And now what some of you have been waiting for: The lineup for the
CNSL allstar game against Parma. Well it won't be announced until
Saturday. They're be a big dinner at the LePark? Hotel on Thursday.
Dinner which includes a game ticket for Sunday's game is $100.00.
Parma has had great success on their North American tour so far
beating National team and European superteam opponents. I've been
trying to think if it'd be possible for them to not play all eight of
their WC94 stars.
I saw noone from the Jets nor Italia crowd regulars at the three game
tourney with Canada-Jamaica-Trinidad/Tobago. I'd say the Canadian
fans numbered about 40% of the crowd (I assumed all 'white fans'
cheered for Canada and no black fans come to Jets-Italia games). I
expect the stands will be filled with Parma fans living in Canada and
will be interesting to hear if CNSL gets any fan support as most of the
cheering/heckling takes place in Italian for the two sides I follow.
I've been invited to come out to Scarborough Astro games by their
general manager Bruno Ierullo. They play Sunday nights at Birchmount
Stadium and have high quality programs with updated standings etc. I
may give them a try!
Next games: Thursday August 10th Astros at Jets
Friday August 11th Italia at London City
Sunday August 13th two regular games cancelled because
of CNSL AllStars vs Parma game at Varsity Stadium.
Monday August 14th Jets at Italia.
Maybe I'll get the standings posted this week.
