York United FC announce Marco Bonofiglio as Assistant Coach of York United Academy

York United FC is thrilled to welcome Marco Bonofiglio to the York United Academy coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Working alongside Technical Director and Head Coach Silviu Butnaru, Bonofiglio joins the team ahead of the Academy’s
debut season in League1 Ontario.
Bonofiglio brings over a decade of top-level youth experience and now joins York United following his time with the
Guyana U17 National Team. He played a key role in the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Men’s Qualifiers, helping the squad secure
a historic third-place finish in their group.
His coaching career spans Canada, the United States, and Italy, where he worked with Serie C and Serie D clubs,
honing young talent while learning from some of Italy’s top national team coaches. Holding a Concacaf National A License,
he is widely respected for his expertise in youth development, dynamic coaching style, and ability to forge strong
relationships with players and staff.
“This opportunity with York United is incredibly exciting for me,” Bonofiglio said. “I’ve built meaningful relationships
with the owners, management, coaches, and players over time, and that sense of family is important. The message to our
players is simple: every training session matters, and they need to bring their full focus and effort every single day.”
Bonofiglio emphasizes an objective-based learning approach that prioritizes individual growth while strengthening
the team as a whole. His leadership will be crucial in shaping the Academy’s methodology and preparing young players
for the next step in their football journeys.
“We want these players to be outstanding young men in our community and fully embrace the York United way,” he added.
“Our goal is for them to grow with us and achieve success together for years to come.”
His arrival further strengthens York United FC’s commitment to fostering young Canadian talent and creating a clear
pathway for the next generation.
The Nine Stripes Academy is set to kick off its inaugural League1 Ontario campaign in April, with preparations well
underway for an exciting season ahead.
