League1 Ontario plans continue as York United FC Academy announces open tryouts The team's Head Coach will be unveiled
next week, as will a number of players.

It hasn't only been a busy off-season for York United FC's first team.

Plans for the club's League1 Ontario side, York United FC Academy - set to compete in the Men's Championship Division later this year - are also simmering, with a slate of big announcements scheduled for next week, including the identity of the Head Coach.

The Academy has also announced that open tryouts will be held in February for players between the ages of 17-22. Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre will host two separate sessions, the first on February 7th from 2.30-4.30 and the second on February 10th from 2pm-4pm. Availability is limited and applicants will be contacted by the club if they're selected for participation.

Excitement is building ahead of an inaugural L1O campaign for the organization.

Last November, it was announced that York United FC Academy had acquired a license to compete in the second tier of Ontario’s Pro-Am soccer pyramid. The squad will feature amateur U20 players, as well as a maximum of three domestic U23 players at any one time. The license also allows for a maximum of three players who can be called down from the club’s Canadian Premier League (CPL) roster on short-term loans.

The team - like their CPL counterparts - will play home games at York Lions Stadium.

Club president Ricardo Pasquel is thrilled with the progress after an in-depth scouting process.

"We have a strong vision for this club and building a wider structure, giving as many players an opportunity to shine, has always been a top priority," he says.

"Since arriving as owners, we've witnessed the level of local talent up close and it's exceptional. It's our responsibility to give these players a platform and meaningful chances. The York United FC Academy is the perfect way to do that. We've watched so many fantastic young players and built an impressive database. The roster is coming together very nicely and we're proud of the group we've assembled. We know these immense young men will represent our organization with pride."
