Frank Sturing signs new one-year deal with York United 2025-01-21 York United FC confirmed on Tuesday that Canadian defender Frank Sturing will be back with the club in 2025. The 27-year-old centre-back has signed a new one-year guaranteed contract with the club and will look to build on an extremely impressive debut campaign with the Nine Stripes. Though a pesky injury ensured he missed eight league games, Sturing returned just in time to assist the club in the playoffs and he proved a key element in an historic 2-0 win over Pacific FC in late October, the team’s very first postseason victory. Overall, Sturing made 20 appearances in all competitions and was included twice in the Gatorade Team of the Week “I’m really excited to be back and looking forward to being part of something special,” Sturing said. “2024 was a big step in the right direction and with the returning players and the terrific new signings we’ve made, there’s a genuine belief within the group that we can push hard for a championship. I know that’s the objective for the entire squad. We got close last season and it’s given us a renewed purpose now. We’re motivated. We’re hungry. We’re ready.” Born in the Netherlands, Sturing holds a Canadian passport and featured twice for the senior team during qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. At club level, Sturing began at his local team NEC Nijmegen and made his senior Eredivisie debut in April 2017. In the summer of 2020, Sturing moved to FC Den Bosch, and his performances attracted the attention of Austrian club SV Horn, with Sturing switching to the second division club in 2021. Across two campaigns, he was consistently impressive, making 47 appearances and scoring twice. Qualifying for Canada through his father, Sturing was named in the Under-23 provisional squad for Olympic qualifying in February 2020. The following year, he was called into the senior team for a FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifier against Cayman Islands and found the net in a memorable debut. He continued to be involved in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, included in the matchday squad for all five games as Canada made it to the semi-finals. “Having Frank back with us for another season is huge for us,” said Ricardo Pasquel, President of York United FC. “He brought such calm and composure whenever he was on the field last season and he’s a modern defender: comfortable in and out of possession, extremely technical and possesses a fantastic football IQ too. He’s a reliable presence and gives us a very solid defensive base. Frank is a thorough professional and a wonderful ambassador for the club. He’s going to be a crucial element for us.”back to 2025 York United FC menu
