York United FC announced on Tuesday the signing of Canadian defender Cameron DaSilva as their 2025 roster begins
to properly take shape.
The centre-back, a native of Bowmanville, Ont, has put pen to paper on a one-year guaranteed contract, with club
options for 2026 and 2027.
The 22-year-old spent the past two seasons with Simcoe County Rovers in League1 Ontario, where he won a Men’s Premier Division
title in 2023. Last term, his upward trajectory continued and his consistent performances ensured the club crowned him
as Men’s Player of the Year for 2024.
“It’s a privilege and a blessing to sign with York,” DaSilva said.
“The club has a great vision and being able to represent my home city is great. I had the opportunity to to train with the team
during the final couple of months last season and I just loved the passion everyone had. The environment was fantastic and I can’t
wait for pre-season to start and for the group to start collaborating. It’s an exciting squad and I know we can build on an excellent
season and deliver something special.”
The left-sided defender received his initial football education at Ajax FC while he also played with Darlington Soccer Club
before joining the Toronto FC Academy as an 11-year-old in 2014 and he remained there for many years, making four appearances
for Canada in the Concacaf U-15 Boys’ Championship in Florida in 2017.
DaSilva is part of a younger generation of Canadian players now benefitting from an established domestic pathway. His time
with Simcoe County Rovers was especially impactful, and he’s now ready to test himself at the next level.
“I feel this is a great step in the right direction,” DaSilva says.
“It was a fantastic experience being mentored by the likes of Julian de Guzman, Doneil Henry and Peter Raco at Simcoe and it’s really
a reflection of where the sport is headed in Canada. Young players now have a trajectory here and it’s exciting to be part
of a generation getting these types of opportunities.”
DaSilva is the latest new face at York United, as a busy off-season continues.
Defender Riley Ferrazzo, attacker Adonijah Reid and midfielder Gabriel Bitar have already been announced, while some notable
members of the 2024 squad will return for the upcoming campaign.
Club president Ricardo Pasquel is thrilled at the recruitment, particularly the personalities of the new additions.
“Cam joined a number of our training sessions during the last part of the 2024 season and we were all impressed by what we saw,”
Pasquel said.
“It was a very quick and easy decision for us, given his ability. He’s strong, reads the game well, carries a real presence at the back
and is comfortable in and out of possession. Cam is also a young Canadian player and our greatest objective is to showcase the talent
that exists here, giving them the opportunities they deserve. The signings we’ve made are all humble, hardworking guys and they’re
ready to dig deep for this club. We’re excited by the possibilities ahead.”
