York United FC announced on Tuesday the club has signed Canadian forward Adonijah Reid, as the club continues to build its roster for the 2025 Canadian Premier League season.

The 25-year-old has signed a one-year guaranteed deal with the club, with the Nine Stripes holding an option for an additional 12 months.

A native of Brampton, Ont., Reid spent the past two seasons with Pacific FC and racked up five goals and eight assists in 51 appearances across all competitions as the team made the playoffs in both 2023 and 2024. Overall, Reid accumulated over 2,000 minutes of action during his time with the Tridents but is now looking forward to returning to the Greater Toronto Area and reconnecting with home.

“It’s like I haven’t been home in forever,” Reid said.

“I’ve played a lot of my football in different parts of the world and throughout this country too. I’m really happy to finally get to play at home in front of friends and family. I want to hit the ground running and have one of the best seasons of my career. The objective is clear: help the team win a championship. Whether it’s goals or assists, I want to put my stamp on the team and be the best I can be.”

After cutting his teeth with Caledon SC, Reid later joined the ANB Futbol Academy and graduated to playing League1 Ontario football with the club at just 15 years of age. In that first season as a semi-pro, Reid scored an astonishing 20 goals, was inevitably rewarded with the league’s Young Player of the Year award and spent the off-season trialling with OGC Nice in France.

In January 2017, the in-demand youngster was selected as one of Major League Soccer’s first-ever Generation Adidas Canada stars ahead of that year’s SuperDraft. Reid was subsequently selected in the second round (40th overall) by FC Dallas. That summer, he was loaned to United Soccer League side Ottawa Fury and made his professional debut in a 2-0 win over Toronto FC II. Later, Reid enjoyed a second loan stint in the nation’s capital and ended up making 45 appearances for the club across two seasons, scoring five times. His form resulted in five appearances for the Canada U-20 side, following previous stints with the U-18 and U-16 squads.

In 2019, Reid joined French club Le Havre before returning to North America and signing with FC Miami. He proved a crucial part of the Florida side in his two campaigns, tallying 10 goals and six assists in 56 games overall. In 2023, he made the move to Pacific FC.

Now, excited by the foundations laid last season, Reid is hungry to push the Nine Stripes to even greater heights in the year ahead.

“It feels like the club is moving in the right direction,” he said.

“Every time I faced them last season, it was always very difficult. It seems something special is around the corner for this club and I want to contribute in whatever way I can.”

Reid is the first new face announced by the club and with a litany of players returning for the upcoming campaign, the roster build is simmering. Club president Ricardo Pasquel is delighted with Reid’s acquisition and promises a busy few weeks ahead as further signings get unveiled.

“Adonijah is a dynamic attacker and an exciting arrival,” Pasquel said.

“He is someone we earmarked early on as a target so we’re very happy to get the deal done. He’s always a threat and his numbers speak for themselves. We feel he will contribute enormously to the upcoming season and we’re delighted to bring him home.

“It’s been an extremely busy off-season so far and we are thrilled with the deals we’ve done. The announcements will be coming thick and fast in the next few weeks as we inch towards the start of pre-season.”
