Friday April 11, 2025...Rocket Robin's interview with York United Academy technical director Silviu Butnaru (by Rocket Robin)

My audio interview with York United Academy technical director Silviu Butnaru on Friday April 11, 2025...(18 minutes, 30 seconds)

York United Academy are a new League1 Ontario team starting out in the second tier Championship Division with their first game this Sunday at 7:00pm in Ll Cup action against fellow Championship Division team Sudbury Cyclones after the CPL matinee game between York United FC and HFX Wanderers FC.

Did you get your first players from your first tryouts last summer?
Do you have a full squad now?
Have must of these players had League1 Ontario experience?
Is your main goal to move your players up to the first team?
Would your players who do play a game for the CPL team be allowed to move back down to L1O for more game time?
Would you be allowed to have an older CPL player play for the Academy team to recover from injury?
Is your goal to move the Academy team up from Championship Division to first tier Premier Division?
Does your goal also include pushing players on to scholarships like L1O Sigma FC (CPL Forge FC) or strictly for CPL?
Who are the goalies for this year's team?
Are all your guys excited for their first game played right after the CPL game this Sunday against Sudbury Cyclones in L1 Cup action?
Your opening League game then takes place next Friday at 7:00pm also against Sudbury but you are bumped to the Zanchin Automotive Centre because of Toronto FC II's MLS NEXT Pro home opener at York Lions Stadium.
"Thank yous" exchanged!

*Note: At the beginning of the interview I unintentially mentioned that the game is 'tonight' a few times maybe subliminally as I was thinking or tonight's L1O opening Men's Cup game between Alliance United and Cambridge United at nearby Esther Shiner Stadium.
